Love the new display format

This is a significant very helpful upgrade. Much easier to use.

Elevation data is wrong

I really like the layout of this app, but the weather points I am creating on the map are not displaying the correct altitude. They are generally a couple thousand feet lower than what I know the elevations to be. This is pretty concerning considering how big an impact this has on the weather forecast. Please fix!

Everything in 1 place!

Great app combining almost everything I need in one place. This significantly makes route planning easy

Great

I haven’t used it a time yet but it seems pretty useful. There was a bug where it wouldn’t load the avy report for my main area (mt. hood). I left a review commenting on the bug and the dev responded very quickly and pushed an update to the app with in a couple days fixing it.

Response from developer

Thanks for reporting this bug. I released an update today that fixes the Mt Hood avy forecast. Please email beta@skithebackountry.com if you have any other issues or feedback.

Pretty good

My only complaint is that I have to change the state in the settings to see Idaho (I live in Washington). Living on the border between both states, it would be nice seeing all my local snowtel sites on the map view. I bought the pro version thinking this would give me that option, but it doesn’t.

Can’t change my password

When I try to reset my password so I can login and change my account settings, the app never sends me an email with a link.

Response from developer

Please email me at beta@skithebackcountry.com so I can help troubleshoot this issue. I apologize for the difficulty resetting your password.

Doesn't seem to work anymore.

No current forecasts.

Response from developer

Long press on the map to add a weather forecast. Please email beta@skithebackcountry.com and I can help troubleshoot if this is not working.

Great tool

Plan your rides with better data on current conditions and great tool for reporting observations and collecting data. The tracking function records your activity accurately so u can review the days journey.

Essential planning tool

Having NOAA point forecasts, avalanche outlook, and SNOTEL data all in one app is just the best. This is THE essential winter recreation app IMHO.

Best backcountry ski app I’ve found

Point forecasts and snotel and avy reports!

The snotel data is gold!

I use this app every morning before heading out on a tour. Awesome to have all this backcountry weather data in one app.

Great to have SNOTEL capability again in an App

I’m a backpacker and really appreciate seeing the temperatures and snow cover.

Great backcountry resource

The CAIC website is so clunky on the phone, so it’s great to have this app provide avy forecasts and weather data in a more usable format. I love having easy access to snotel data and weather point forecasts.

All in one place!

It’s amazing to have all these tools packed neatly into one app. I usually have to use my laptop, several web pages, and a couple other apps to get all the tools and info that this app has. Networking to find partners, slope angle shading to plan routes, and all the weather/snow-nerd data - it’s all here. Finally!!!

Won’t let me cancel trial subscription scam

Wanted to try this app but the free trial can’t be canceled in the app or on the App Store. The contacts for the app developer are dead ends.
Beware of this scam.

Response from developer

Subscriptions can be canceled through the profile tab or directly from your iTunes account. Please email backcountryapp@gmail.com and I will make this right.

Awful design and UI

Really poorly designed app. Not intuitive and terrible UI.

The slope angle overlay, which you have to pay extra for, is not very precise, which is dangerous, and there is no guide as to how different colors correspond to actual angle.

The map download is confusing and I was never able to get it to work.

Overall it’s a great idea that was really poorly executed. I’m bummed I spent the money on the pro version and won’t in the future. Indeed, I won’t be using it at all. Much better apps out there.

App Freezes

Upgraded to pro subscription. Maps won’t download. App freezes when trying to start a route.

Response from developer

I am sorry you are having trouble with the subscription. Please email backcountryapp@gmail.com and I will do my best to troubleshoot the problem.

Get into the backcountry!

This app has a wealth of resources for backcountry skiers. For each of your routes you can check the avalanche forecast, summit weather pointcast and nearby snotel snowfall history. Previously I had to check several different websites before heading out in the morning. Now this is my go to app.

Crash

Crashes when open. Need bug fixed

Response from developer
