I went to this game because a different one was so unfair of the computer's dice rolls. At first, I thought this was better, but after playing for a short while, I see that it is not. In one of my typical games, the computer will get 3 or 4 sets of good doubles, while I usually might not get any. It does not seem to be random. If I get doubles, it's often 1's, where the computer gets great numbers. Several times when I've almost won, I've seen the computer get back-to-back great doubles, for the win. A regular person is not likely to get the perfect numbers they need as often as the computer does. And all of this is at Easy. I've tried Med, but it was unfair, and much worse. It appears to be a very well written game and if the dice rolls were fair and truly random, I would give 5 stars...

If only the dice were random…

This game is loaded with features far above what the other backgammon games I’ve checked out offer. Great aesthetics, yellow highlighting of potential moves, a simple undo feature, and lots more.

Ordinarily, I’d easily give it five stars. But cannot, for one reason. It has a major flaw that makes it unacceptable (to me) for true practice against the computer:

The dice are non-random.

This is not necessarily malicious. I suspect the dice are enhanced just to make the game more exciting. That’s not uncommon among game apps.

Evidence? There are just too many ‘coincidental’ rolls, like, where only one out of 36 would benefit the roller, and it hits. Happens too often—way too often (for both computer and human player) for random dice.

And too many doubles, especially on the last play of the game.

My pet peeve: when playing the computer, its blot on the bar gets in first roll (my estimate) about 70-80% of the time. Even with five slots filled.

Note to developers: consider building in an option to select 1) true random dice, or 2) the current ‘exciting play’ (non-random) setting.

That way, those of us wanting to practice can do so without enhanced dice, if we choose.

I still play this game a lot, but often while gritting my teeth. Why stick with it? Because I can’t find other Backgammon apps with as many features with random dice.

(Note: I’ve never tried playing against live players, so that play may be different.)
