Backroads

The Backroads App is filled with information to help guests prepare for each days activities.

Excellent snapshots and better than the daily paper sheets

Really good daily snapshots that are more pointed than the travel planner. Backroads gives you access a week before you trip which informs my final packing choices. On trip, it eliminates the thousands of questions my spouse and kids ask about the plan for the day.

Not the most sophisticated app but I think that’s intentional. You don’t need to be tech savvy to use it and I believe it works offline/when you have no cell service.

Also really helpful when planning the On Your Own (OYO) activities and meals.

Scotland Hiking

Excellent service, planning, execution, personal attentions from the attending Backroads Staff Camille, Alistair, and Lee

Great guides, horrible internet

Guides are great - 5 star. Trip is great. Internet is complete garbage - 1 star

Trouble accessing

The information on this app is fantastic ….if you can access it. It seemingly appears and disappears. Try to redownload the app and there is no way to type in your required code. Totally frustrating.

Works great!

Simple but effective. I like that it keeps me informed and saves paper!

Maps do not work

It is great to have a digital Inside Scoop and daily activities but the maps are always blank.

Could be so much better

There is some decent content, but the app is unusually difficult to navigate. And what ia the thing with the “shortcut”? I don’t consider it a shortcut if I have to lookup a shortcut code each time I open the app. And while a QR code is displayed as an alternative shortcut, it is static—you can’t click on it, and you can’t scan it with your camera.

I would have expected better from a top notch company.

Not always current and freezes frequently

I love backroads travel but this app is really not great. I can’t find it in the App Store, I occasionally freezes into a white space and has to be closed and reopened, and the on the ground trip leaders have no ability to update it with changes. It is hard to open as the user is sent to Ride with GPS with no explanation and there is no way to have more than one trip open simultaneously so if one loss a new one, one has to go back through the entire routine to get the other one! Also we he links only come in email with a NUMBER of the reservation, not the location of the trip which is super confusing. And finally, the actual dates of “day 1, day 2 “ etc aren’t displayed which is just ridiculous.

Miles anyone?

Just started our trip. While the app has a toggle in settings for metric on or off. It does nothing. Only displays metric.

Enriches my experience!

I am using the app to review my trip I finished two weeks ago. I am thrilled to be able to do this now that I have a bit of time. Seeing the route maps after having completed the rides is great. I can visualize and remember each day! I just hope I won’t be denied access any time soon so I can continue to reminisce, and share how great Backroads was with my friends who might be interested in coming next ime!

Preliminary comments

Just at the start, the Waldorf Astoria is no more. It is now the Caledonian. It may have confused a few folk, including me. Just a thought.

Bare minimal app!

Not very useful. They send the routes right before the trip. If you plan to go to your destination early you may miss some recommendations for trip packing.

Good daily resource

Useful way to capture route info, cultural information (do miss the paper sheets a little bit), information about restaurants, spa treatments and local language phrases.

Kinda wish there was also an app for trip selection/cataloging but this app does it’s job very well.

Love this thing

Nothing more than an outdated RidewithGPS with a Backroads label slapped on the screen. Five stars.

Great advancement!

Works really well for trips. So happy that Backroads has gone paperless

Fabulous!

Super easy to navigate. Very intuitive and user friendly

Awful app

It simply does nothing. It displayed information at first, but then when I tried opening it later nothing happened. So I used the BR link and code and it displayed all the information. But the next time I tried opening the app there was nothing there again.

Appears to be broken.

Going on a trip next week, app said it needed and update but wouldn’t update. Now app does not accept my trip code.

Can’t print

While it’s nice to have the day by day stuff, the inability to print it out is in red frustrating. How could that be overlooked?
