About
Bedside is a personal focus tool for the hours before sleep. You choose which apps keep you up at night (TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, dating apps — your call) and when your sleep window is. Bedside blocks them during that window, and makes unlocking a little inconvenient on purpose.
This is for you, not for watching anyone else. It's built on Apple's Screen Time framework for personal device usage management.
Why bother:
· Willpower and "I'll put it down in 5 minutes" don't work
· Built-in Screen Time limits are too easy to dismiss
· A tiny friction step — 60 seconds of staring, a couple of math problems, a line you have to copy — is often enough to put the phone down
What it does:
1. Block windows — set nightly schedules (e.g. 22:00 – 07:00); crosses midnight; multiple windows allowed.
2. 3 unlocks per night — each one requires a short random task (countdown, math, transcribe a sentence, shake, or a question you wrote for yourself). Grants 5 minutes.
3. Cooldown lane when you're out — for real emergencies, wait 10 minutes (no task, stays passive). The more you use it tonight, the longer the next wait.
4. Optional guardian password — lock the "edit windows / reset allowance" escape hatches behind a password you set once (or have a friend set it).
5. Fully local — no account, no servers, no uploads. Your app selections and usage stay on your device.
Bedside is not an ad blocker, not an enterprise management tool, not for managing someone else's device — only yours.

1.2.7
July 7, 2026
• More reliable Periodic Break: fixed a rare issue where detection could stop working after a long idle stretch (e.g. overnight) — it now recovers on its own • Fixed a leftover block screen occasionally appearing right after a pause starts — tapping any button on it now clears it instantly
