Insuffienct

Doesn’t appear to have the range of British birds.

Useless on an iPhone

If you were expecting to identify an unseen bird vocalising close by, on an iPhone, forget it! Time and time again it produces ridiculous matches.

If you have a fair idea of what the bird is, it’s a useful reference tool, but there are better and cheaper alternatives.

A waste of money.

Less is not more, poor app.

Not enough bird calls on this app, many British Birds missing.
Get a different app.

Not fit for purpose

I think the birds would need to be trained to stand in front of a microphone in a professional recording studio and have a few training sessions to make it on to a short list of three possibilities.

Very Poor

Very disappointed with this. Very rarely seems to identify birds correctly. I recently tried this app whilst very close to a Cuckoo which was very clear with no other bird song evident and got a ridiculous range of birds (the top match came up as a Wren ! Don’t bother with this app.

Disappointed

Very limited number of birds and information way out of date, for example the distribution of the red kite. Likes to call all marshland song as Mallard when there were none in sight!

Hopeless

Every recording I make returns the same list of results. The top hit every time is a ring necked parakeet. I live in the Wiltshire countryside. I can’t think of many birds that I’m less likely to see. Unless I’m doing something wrong I wouldn’t waste your money.

Only once has this worked

I frequently stop to record a clear bird song and it has only once ID’d the bird. It normally comes up with a huge list of birds that sound nothing like the call I can hear. Needs to improve its artificial intelligence

Poor

I’ve not been able to get a proper identification out of this app yet. It seems to like ring necked parakeets for some reason which makes this very unreliable. I’ve only been using it for a week or so and I will persevere with for a while longer and then assess it again. I’m not expecting much improvement though! Don’t waste you money on this one.

Birdsong ID

It’s all very well updating this App, but I have IS12, and my IPhone 5 won’t stretch to 13, so I have lost the app I paid for. I am not happy!

Garbage.

So vague where this apps answers that I tested it on a very loud and obvious magpie. It didn’t identify it once.

Is it even a bird?

The closest this app has come to identifying what a recording has in common with a bird is anything that has feathers. Hopeless and frustrating.

Helps to identify birds when I’m out dog walking

I had the old version and it was so much better. Maybe I’m using this one incorrectly but the old one had a great identifier function whereby you could choose various features of the song you heard eg high pitch, melodious and the app would give you suggestions as to what it could be. This version just gives you a frustrating quiz with no information as to what song might sound like. Also when you do a recording it gives suggestions but you can’t listen to the song/call without a great deal of trial and error and faffing. I am thinking of getting a different app 😕

Doesn’t work

I agree with a previous review, I doubt all these 5* reviews. Clear audio of a distinctive bird song and the app is giving be a long list of birds it could be that sound absolutely nothing like it... usually the same list of birds every time... minimal narrowing down. The instructions for getting a good enough audio sample for the app are nigh on impossible, getting that close to the bird and only having 1 bird singing at once for a full 30s sample... pretty gutted I paid anything for this. Waste of money.

Useless

Dont be taken in by good reviews. This app is just plain bad

Not convinced

I have tried this a lot in my garden and it does pick up what you would expect to be hearing but also some that are just implausible - we are in Surrey yet it frequently suggests coastal wading birds. Also, when I have found myself under a tree trying to identify something I don’t recognise, it just gives the same list and I’m sure everything isn’t a blackbird...

Miss disappointed

This just doesnt work! The results it provides after each recording is just a list of all the birds with varying percentages. Its like saying today will be sunny, windy rainy and snow and that way they are not wrong!

Useless

I personally have found this app a waste of money and would request a refund if possible! I wanted to know if a bird I could see was a swallow, swift or house Martin.... it was the only bird singing at this time..... the app said ring necked parakeet and none of the above were mentioned!!!!! I have better things to do with my time .... high expectations.... low performance

Great.

Bloody good for identification. Only criticism is that the noise you are recording must be prominent as it struggles to define one song amongst others. Otherwise very good.

Doesn’t work

I have apple se. I’ve downloaded twice. Makes recordings and I’ve followed guidance. Thinks all birds are collared doves or parakeet or some other nonsense when clearly they were skylarks or chaffinch or blackbird. Very disappointed. It deserves no stars. Not possible. Going to delete.
