What's New in Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab

4.1.1

August 24, 2026

What's new in 4.1: Sound ID is better at listening for birds, and now includes hundreds of new species in Central and South America, Australia, Asia, and Africa. Birds have different sounds throughout the year. Merlin now highlights seasonally relevant recordings, so you can learn how birds sound during breeding season, migration, and beyond. Nearby places now include photo thumbnails, making it easier to browse and recognize birding hotspots near you.

Incredible app

Love this app so much. Thank you all 🫶🏻

Rubbish

Use to be one of my favourite apps. Now think it’s awful. Never works, even if the bird is practically next to you.

Error Message

I keep getting a message saying “An error occurred. Please verify your internet connection and try again.” My internet has been working fine. I’ve reset my phone, updated everything, deleted and reloaded the app and nothing has worked to fix this issue.

Pure addiction

Brilliant and useful so much more in tune with the world

App doesn’t work

In the past couple of weeks, I keep getting errors when trying to record.
