I Can’t Recommend Blackmagic Cam for the iPhone 13 Pro
I used Blackmagic Cam on an iPhone 13 Pro, and it was a huge disappointment.
The biggest issue is the stabilization. It only works intermittently, and because of that it ruined multiple shots for me. Even when the stabilization does kick in, it’s still noticeably worse than the stabilization in Apple’s built-in Camera app. The footage ends up looking less smooth and less stable.
Another major problem is audio recording. If I’m wearing AirPods, the app keeps ignoring my microphone selection. No matter how many times I set it to use the iPhone’s built-in microphone, after every other clip Blackmagic Cam switches back to the AirPods microphone on its own. This makes the app completely unreliable for recording video.
The maximum video bitrate is also too low, even at the highest quality setting. The resulting video quality simply isn’t good enough, especially in more demanding scenes.
Overall, this is a terrible app that ruined important footage for me. On the iPhone 13 Pro, ProMovie is far more reliable and predictable. Stabilization works consistently, the selected microphone stays selected, and the overall recording experience is much better.
I can’t recommend Blackmagic Cam to iPhone 13 Pro users based on my experience.
