Human-curated rather than algorithm-curated
The fact that you can disable the algorithm is an immediate 5-star to me. The moderation is pretty good, as there’s lists to not see certain things, such as furry posts (thankfully). The only thing that’s kinda annoying is the video player can sometimes break for no apparent reason.
Refreshing when viewing other apps; Drafts grayed out; A few missing features, need more interests
Bluesky should not refresh when I minimize it and open another app. This is so annoying, and I’ve lost writings because of this.
When I write a thread with multiple posts, save it as a draft, close it, and reopen the draft, all but one of the posts in the thread are grayed out, which doesn’t change even when I tap into them.
Threads need to still be scrollable even when there are deleted posts in the middle of them. Private accounts would be nice. There should be more interests to choose from. In particular, Math, Poetry, and Philosophy would be good to have.
The moderation system for artists still makes no sense.

Feeds are constant porn
I followed exclusively political and news accounts. Yet constantly, I would scroll through my feed and see porn and what I can only assume is animated porn? It was bizarre. This UX is terrible, every other social media app has managed to personalize feeds.
poor age verification process
Recent version consistently mislocates me in Texas requiring continuous location sharing to use the app. I can only assume this is a strategy to harvest location information on users.

The age verification that Bluesky is doing is a horrible invasion of privacy and I thought they were better than this. This is not “protecting kids”, this is stealing my data to leak it later. I have lost the majority of my content with this update because I’m an adult looking at adult media, so I won’t be using this app anymore until the feature is removed or edited in a way where I don’t have to send my government ID or social security number to a goddamn website. You are not secure and your intentions are not pure. Bye.

** PLEASE STOP DELETING ALL MY HOME SCREEN NOTIFICATIONS IF I GO TO THE NOTIFICATION TAB ON THE APP TO FIND REPLIES!!!! Or better yet, stop sending me to the notification section of the app when I click on a home-screen notification that’s a reply!! I don’t understand why it doesn’t just open up the reply itself without diverting to the notification section and causing all of my home-screen notifications to disappear. It’s way too difficult to find where I left off, and if I can’t get to them all at once it becomes even more difficult to find where I last left off, not to mention losing any new home-screen notifications every time I get a chance to get back on and try to continue finding the most recent place I left off. It’s much easier to find things via the notifications on the home-screen than the notification section in the app so there needs to be some way to avoid losing those. The only time I want any home-screen notification to disappear is a) when I click on it to view the post it should bring me to, & b) when I swipe it away manually. If Instagram can manage to not delete my unopened home-screen notifications, on the same exact phone, despite opening every section within the app including the notification section, then it’s not something impossible to do.

I am not giving my personal information to an app just to access it! Rolling over and implementing age verification just shows how little they care about their user base. No way am I putting my driver’s license, credit card information, or social security number or all things into a website just to prove that I’ve been an adult for a long time. Bluesky will end up a totally empty shell at this rate. Now I have to find some alternative and lose what I built up after leaving Twitter.
