About
BoardFoot is free. Every tool, no in-app purchases, no ads, no account, and it all
works with no signal.
TALLY THE STACK, AND SEE BOTH NUMBERS
Set thickness and price once, then type each board's width and length on a real
fraction keypad and tap Add. BoardFoot runs two totals at the same time: your measured
volume, and the same stack under the yard's own arithmetic (NHLA surface measure
rounded to the whole square foot, anything under an inch tallied as 4/4, the rough
quarter billed even on surfaced stock, width rounded to the inch, length rounded down
to the foot). Both totals stay pinned on screen and the keypad can never cover them.
THEN CHECK THEIR TICKET
At the register, type the board feet and dollars on the yard's ticket. BoardFoot
itemises the difference: surface-measure rounding, billed rough thickness, width
rounding, price applied. Anything still unexplained is shown as an honest remainder
rather than hidden, and there is no slider to drag until the numbers agree. On a $600
hardwood order, an 8 to 10 percent gap is $50 that no app has ever helped you find.
TYPE IT THE WAY YOUR TAPE MEASURE READS
5 3/8. 5-3/8. 1' 6 1/2". 3/8. 18.5. 470 mm. 47cm. Dictation too. Results come back as
reduced fractions, with an approximation marker when the rounding actually moves the
number, and a decimal toggle whenever you want one.
EVERYTHING ELSE, ALSO FREE
• Quarter picker 4/4 to 16/4, Rough/S2S/S4S, and separate billed vs actual thickness
• Dimensional-lumber mode: a 2x4x8 is 5.33 bf, with the real 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 underneath
• Cut list grouped by thickness, with Yield or Markup waste named on screen and
printed as a literal expression you can audit
• Board layout with correct kerf accounting and end trim, plus 4x8 sheet nesting with
grain lock. To-scale diagrams you can print and tape to the bench
• Lumber rack: what you own, what it cost, what is left, and drying elapsed time. A
cut list subtracts it before telling you what to buy
• About 40 species with density, Janka hardness, shrinkage, weight estimates, and
remembered prices per species and thickness
• Wood movement with flatsawn and quartersawn shown separately, plus a panel gap
• Log scale: Doyle, Scribner Decimal C, and International 1/4 in, side by side
• Six pricing modes: $/bf, $/m3, $/lineal ft, $/lineal m, $/ft2, $/piece
• Full imperial and metric, per field
• CSV, PDF, plain text, AirPrint, and a complete JSON backup and restore
BUILT FOR A LUMBER SHED
No signal needed, no account, big targets, one thumb, and your in-progress tally is
saved on every tap. A backgrounded phone that gets killed comes back with all forty
boards and the row you were typing.
