About

Book Swap Magic gives you a shelf of books and a hidden sentence. The shelf holds six or seven volumes — cloth spines, leather spines, paper spines, each a different colour and height, each with a title that sounds like a real book. Above the shelf, a phrase waits in dim letters: TIME FLIES WHEN WE DREAM TOGETHER. Somewhere in those book titles, the words are hiding. The first word of each title, read left to right across the shelf, will spell the phrase — once the books are in the right order. Tap a book to select it. Tap another to swap their positions. The first word of each title glows gold as its book finds its correct place. When the phrase is fully assembled — when every first word lines up and the sentence reads across the shelf from left to right — the books pulse with warm light, one by one, as if being read aloud. This is spine poetry. It is a real literary art form, practised by librarians, poets, and readers who arrange their shelves so the titles speak to each other. The New York Public Library runs annual spine poetry contests. Artists install shelves whose titles form complete poems. Book Swap Magic takes that art and makes it into an infinite puzzle — with carefully curated titles that feel like genuine books, phrases that have weight and meaning, and a shelf that looks like it belongs in a private library that someone has loved for a long time. The books are not random. Every title in the library was chosen for its first word's poetic utility — for how it combines with others to form phrases about time, loss, wonder, departure, and return. Walking Shadows. Light on Water. Still Waters. Dream of Glass. Together We Fall. The titles feel familiar because they are built from the same materials as real titles — the same rhythms, the same imagery, the same suggestion of a story behind the words. At low difficulty the target phrase is always shown and there are no decoy books — the puzzle is purely about recognising which title starts with which word and finding the correct sequence. As difficulty increases, the target phrase is replaced by a single theme word — Departure, Stillness, Wonder — and multiple valid arrangements exist. Any phrase that fits the theme, assembled from the available titles, is accepted. This is where spine poetry becomes genuinely creative. Two players given the same shelf and the same theme may produce completely different sentences, both correct, both meaningful. A hint moves the next correct book into position. Three wrong confirmations and the library closes. No ads. No timers. No literary knowledge required — only the ability to read the first word of a title and imagine how it connects to the next. Just the shelf, the books, and the sentence that is waiting to be found.
