Thank you, that is fair. Your books are stored as standard EPUB and PDF files, but in the app's own storage rather than a browsable folder, and there is no proper export on iPhone and iPad yet. On the Mac you can drag any book from the library to Finder and get the file with your edited metadata included. Getting books out on iOS is on our list.
does not stay in place when font size changes

Thank you for the feedback. You're right -- changing the font size currently jumps to a different position instead of staying on the text you were reading. We have a fix in progress that anchors your position to the actual text content before applying the change. Expect it in an upcoming update.

Der BookShelves E-Book Reader bietet eine wesentlich bessere Katalogisierung als die Bücher App von Apple. Man kann hier Bücher gleich mehreren unterschiedlichen Kategorien gleichzeitig zuordnen, und man kann auch Bücher herausfiltern, die noch keine Kategorie zugeordnet sind. Das sehe ich jedenfalls als das größte Plus gegenüber anderen E-Book Readern.
Toll ist auch die unproblematische Synchronisation des Bücherbestands über die iCloud, was wieder ein Vorteil gegenüber Calibre ist.
Die Darstellung der Bücher erfolgt entweder als Doppelseite oder als Einzelseite und auch die Handhabung ist ausgezeichnet und intuitiv.
Klare Empfehlung!

Thanks for the feedback. BookShelves stores your files in standard formats -- you can access them through iCloud Drive or export via drag and drop. Nun hat Bookshelves seit Neuestem auch eine deutschsprachige Oberfläche. Die Weiterentwicklung schreitet schnell voran! Was ich jetzt noch gerne hätte, wäre eine Möglichkeit die Kategorien (bzw. Bücherregale) in eine selbst gewählte Reihenfolge zu schieben. Und wenn es möglich ist, auch noch die Bücher selbst.

Update -- ab Version 1.0.36 lassen sich Bücherregale per Drag-and-Drop in eine eigene Reihenfolge bringen, sowohl auf macOS als auch auf iOS.

Update -- both are available now. Multi-select shipped in version 1.0.37: tap Select, choose your books, then use the shelf button in the bottom toolbar to move them all at once. Importing directly to a shelf also works: navigate to the shelf first, then tap + to import, and new books are automatically added to that shelf.
Needs bulk operations on IOS.
Unfortunately, there are no functions provided to work with multiple books at a time on iPad, whether adding them to user defined bookshelves or deleting. For me at least, the ability to select multiple books for management operations such as categorizing or deleting books is an essential feature.
I upgraded to Pro and added a bunch of the public domain books before noticing this functionality omission when I set out to organize them. Disappointing.
I hope someday the developers will add this ability to the app. In the meantime, the hunt continues…

Good news -- iOS multi-select shipped in version 1.0.37! Tap Select in the nav bar to choose multiple books, then use the bottom toolbar to add them to a shelf, set reading status, toggle favorites, assign tags, or delete in bulk. Give it a try and let us know how it works for you.

Schön wäre es, wenn die Oberfläche der App nicht nur auf Englisch wäre. Ich bevorzuge nun mal deutschsprachige Apps. Aber das ist nur ein kleiner Kritikpunkt.

Great app for organizing your ebook library
The design looks great and feels clean. Nothing cluttered or confusing, everything is where you'd expect it to be. I mostly use it to organize my ebooks and it handles that perfectly. No complaints there at all.
Also really excited for some of the upcoming features. Feels like the app is just going to keep getting better.

Thank you for the kind words, Sarassine! Really glad BookShelves is working well for you. Good news on the Discover section: version 1.0.24 adds a toggle in Settings to hide it completely. And thanks for noticing the analytics switch.
Exceedingly well thought out little gem
One negative that I suspect will be easy to fix is the forced "Discover" section - this makes the app feel less like a personal reader and more like a vaguely disguised marketing ploy. One should be able to turn it off completely.
Oh, and the "analytics" off-switch is a very nice touch - it is highly appreciated!
Overall, a great little app at a very affordable price.
