An must have app!
I would love if the app allowed for capitalization and apostrophes. These things come up on my daughter's spelling tests. It's hard to remember to capitalize February when you've been practicing it in lowercase. Overall great app. It keeps improving. I like the expanded quiz mode.
We have a first grader that did not enjoy doing her spelling homework. We would make her copy the words over and over with much whining and complaining. No matter how much we worked with her, she would still get two or three wrong on the weekly tests. We got this app and the next week's test was a perfect score! She enjoys it. We like that we put in that weeks spelling words and that the program doesn't say "wrong" or anything like that, she just can't move a wrong letter while she is still learning the word. This helps our daughter immensely who is sensitive to corrections. I asked my first grader what others should know about why she likes it: " I like that it doesn't yell at me, and that there is a fun reward that is also challenging." This app is perfect to let her work on while cooking dinner. She's doing homework without me having to be over her shoulder. I think a perfect score the next test speaks for itself! I also have to stress that I love the letter tiles to choose from instead of a keyboard. Learning to spell new words was hard enough for her when every possible letter might be out there, now she only has a handful of letters to choose from. That was the main thing I was looking for in this app compared to other spelling apps I saw out there. The graphic interface is perfect!

Strictly spelling- NO phonics
I bought this app assuming there would be a phonics component to it...silly me. This app only identifies letter, no sounds. In order to teach a child to read they need to be able to recognize letters and know what sounds they make. I do not recommend this app to anybody, especially at $2.99. NOT worth a penny.

Good but room for improvements
I love having the ability to add our personalized words! My one suggestion that would GREATLY improve this app would be to have the ability to quiz with the addition of pictures for those that has auditory processing delays
great app!!
my son really enjoys this app!!....the graphics are cute..good sound effects ...i love that this app sounds out the letters....learning and having fun at the same time is a winning combination!!!...thanks for such a great app!!!
Awesome App for early elementary
My kids love this app. Makes spelling fun. I like that it has lists for each grade level from pre-k to 3rd grade. Kids can learn, practice, and take tests. It also keeps track of test scores. You can also make your own customized lists for words the kids are learning in school. Just create the list, add the word and record your pronunciation of the word. Just like that you have a customized test your kids can do narrated by mom and dad!

Needs Improvement
I love this app because you can add your own word lists, but I wish they would come up with a better way to "reward" the child. Snapping bubbles are not so fun. Other apps have way more fun means of giving rewarding encouragement for a job well done.
Not so good
Just bought this for my iPad2 and the sound doesn't work. Contacted them and got a quick response but problem not yet resolved.
Ok I'm changing my review because of the Great cust. Service. I contacted them about the sound problem and they were right on it, offering help and staying in contact til it was solved. Got sound having a blast spelling. K level son is spelling 4-5 letter wods with this already.
Thanks for great service!

Soso at best
Not a great spelling app
Waste of money
Dont buy this app for iphone! All of the letters necessary to spell the word dont show up on the screen. Frustrating and a waste of money. Cant figure out how anyone could review this positively!
Very nice
Fun app. It is more of a tool to assist you with teaching the kids, not really a game.
Highly customizable as well.
Highly customizable as well.
Love the app
This app greatly helped our five year old get ready for kindergarten. Her reading improved dramatically and she moved on to chapter books since mastering all 600 words from this app.
Edit: multiple custom lists help us focus on problem areas.

Should include phonics piece.
This app is great for young students and children with learning disabilities. For $3, this app should also contain the phonics piece. You will need spend an additional $3 to have the phonics use, which I feel is excessive. Sometimes, the child's voice does not enunciate well the ending sound of a word, and you need to have the word repeated or guess.

Terrible
As a learning tool this app is awful. They don't give the kid any idea as to which word to spell, but yet they only allow a certain word to be spelled. So the kid must touch every letter until one actually moves and that's how they know which letter the game is expecting next. That's just guessing or trial and error, not thinking or learning.

for a 3 year old
it's great for preschool children, but my daughter is already in kindergarten and found them too easy. maybe an update will fix the limit of 6 letters on custom words to become more challenging.
Custom words needs help
The canned words are good. The audio is fairly clear as well. The custom words needs more work. I was unable to figure out how to edit or remove custom words. I will give 5 stars when this is fixed!
finaly, the way I asked them to make it :)
thanks!
Nice
Nice app for my children. I can tell a person with experience in teaching is behind this app - huge difference between this and most of the cheaper apps that I have installed.
Has potential
This app approaches spelling from memorization rather than sound and rule based. The program only offers the option of sound on, where the letter is named, or sound off. Children should be able to hear the sound the letter makes not the letter name. This is how they begin to learn spelling before they start learning the rules. Spelling is a thinking process. It would also be nice to see the option of choosing the vowel sound you'd like to focus on. This would help children who are really struggling to acquire their reading, writing and spelling skills. Another suggestion is to color code the vowels.

Great job
It's really good. Worth every penny.
Great App!
I have only had this app for 20 minutes or so, but my daughter has been playing it for that whole time! The voice is nice and clear and you can easily understand what words they are saying. I like how it repeats the letter names and the word, but if I had one request it would be that it sounded out the word at some point. I would like for her to learn that the letters make sounds to make up the word, not just memorize the letters to make up the words. Thanks for a great app and I look forward to updates, hopefully containing letter sounds! :)
