About

BUKVYK teaches children to read Ukrainian — from a single letter to a whole story. A child starts with sounds and syllables and ends up reading a bedtime tale alone. Thirteen games, each one step along that road. GAMES • Alphabet and syllables — letters and syllables in order, with voice • Find the pairs — a memory game • How many syllables — count the syllables in a word • Shared syllable — one syllable, three words • First letter — which letter does the word start with • Find the picture — read the word, pick the picture • Build the word — assemble a word from syllables or letters • Sort it out — read the word and drop it into the right jar; tilt the phone and the words roll • True or false — does the sentence describe the picture • Which word — put in the missing word • Finish the rhyme — a word that both rhymes and makes sense • Short stories — read a story told with pictures • Odd one out — three from one pile, one from another BEDTIME TALES Seventy tales written for this app. Each is about a character who tries three ways and finds a fourth: a tortoise in a hurry, a dragon with no fire, a whale who wanted to reach the sky. Turned page by page, like a book, with questions after the last one. Six tales are open from the start. VOICE Every word, syllable, sound and letter name is recorded — seven hundred takes. A child touches a picture and hears the word; touches a letter and hears its sound, not its name. The voice is synthesized, but never on the fly: each take was made and chosen in advance, so a word sounds the same on every screen and with no connection at all. FOR PARENTS A separate screen shows what is actually hard: which letters the child mixes up, which words they stumble on, how much they read today. Difficulty in each game follows the child on its own — there is nothing to set up, and you can still look and adjust it on that same screen. Fifty-seven stickers for milestones. They are holographic: tilt the phone and the shimmer follows your hand. WHAT IS NOT HERE • Advertising — none, anywhere • Accounts and sign-up • Data collection — nothing about you leaves the phone • Hearts, penalties and anything else that rushes a child The games work without a network. It is needed twice, and only when you decide: when the store processes a purchase, and when you tap to download the pack of animated covers and narrated tales. The pack is fetched as a plain request by file name. FULL VERSION One purchase, forever. No subscriptions: the content is finished, and charging every month for the same thing is not honest. The purchase sits behind a parental gate. Making mistakes while learning to read is normal, so there is no red anywhere in the app.

What's New in Bukvyk

1.1.4

October 28, 2026

At the highest difficulty level a child only ever met part of the word list — words of three syllables or more. There are now 438 words there instead of 180: the two-syllable ones that were missing have been added.
