I love the idea of this app, but i was disappointed that I couldn’t trial it. I can speak spanish well enough to get by, and love the idea of learning through songs. But before I commit i want to trial it to see if it actually will help me in improving my spanish.

Really disappointing

App is advertised as a unique way to learn languages. Using music, games and chatting with people in other countries to learn.

Well, there is a pay wall behind speaking to any timer user and people are either inactive or it’s full of fake profiles.

If you are just starting an app, make it free to gain traction and engagement. No one is going to pay when there is nothing there.

Complete waste of time. And this was inspired by a desperate plea from the creator to leave a review. The app stinks !

Can't sign up with email 😟

You can only sign up through apple or google. Ive always signed up to things through my email, & it looks like this was possible for this app in the past. I hope they fix it.

Je teste actuellement Canary pour améliorer mon anglais en chansons, ça marche pas mal du tout.
Interface fluide, bcp de choix de titres

De base je chantais faux sous la douche je cassais la tete à tout le monde et ça ne ressemblait à rien,

Avec Canary je vais pouvoir continuer de chanter faux, casser la tête à tout le monde mais au moins ce sera de l’anglais !

Hard to make sense of it

I truly like the concept but the interface with a bunch of AI slop is truly hard to understand.

The choice of learning a language has no effect in the songs that are shown. For example, songs in French are shown when I am learning German.

Some parts of the app simply do not work as expected. Overall it just feels like a vibe coded piece of software with no real craft behind it.

Thanks for the honest feedback. The wrong-language songs showing in the feed is a bug and definitely not the intended experience. We’re actively fixing that, along with several areas that feel confusing or unfinished. We’re a small team and improving Canary quickly, but we agree the product needs more polish and consistency. Not like the adds

The adds show a taping ryhem game which I thought was supper cool. You have to tap on the correct French words while the song is playing. As someone who loves music and wants to learn French I thought I’d download and give it a go. If it was that and then later had to watch adds to get more coins to play more I probably would have watched it paid for to keep playing. It starts off right away with a monthly or yearly membership which you can by pass if your lucky. But I could not find the game part which means it’s a mini game that is not really the app or is only in the paid section.

Thanks for the feedback, and sorry the experience wasn’t clear. The tapping rhythm game is a real Canary feature, not just something made for the ad. It’s part of our learning experience, but we clearly need to make it much easier to find from the app. You can also use Canary without subscribing, although some features are Premium. Thanks for pointing this out, we’ll improve the onboarding and navigation.

Good app with responsive developer

Originally I had given this app one star because I wasn’t able to create an account. The developer fixed that problem promptly. I haven’t paid yet, but I have been enjoying the free daily songs since July. This is a great way to be exposed to new music in French and build some vocabulary while doing so!

Fun to learn through music

I’m new to Canary, but I’ve been enjoying it so far. It’s a fun concept for people who like both music and language learning, and it makes practicing feel a little less like studying.
I especially like the Fly game and the way the app lets you interact with songs instead of just listening passively. I’d definitely be interested in seeing more songs, artists, languages, and games added over time.
Overall, it’s a really cool way to practice a language through music, and I’m curious to see what’s next :)

Thanks for flagging this, and sorry about the issue! Error 150 is often related to YouTube playback restrictions, especially when using a VPN. If you have a VPN enabled, could you try disabling it and reopening Canary? If it still happens, please let us know so we can investigate.

Needs work

Downloaded for Japanese, been trying it out for three days but the lyrics are all over the place. In the weekly challenge songs, the lyrics are always at least a whole line ahead of the recording, so you’re not actually tracking what you’re hearing. In the regular listening section, there’s constantly words and lines missing. The last one had three whole lines missing, that’s when I gave up on the app. Great idea but needs improvement.

Thanks for the feedback, and sorry about the experience. The Japanese sync and missing-line issues are not acceptable, and we’re actively fixing them! We’ve added a flag button so users can report any song with bad sync or missing lyrics, which helps us correct them faster. Really appreciate you pointing this out.

Overloaded

I can‘t say that I have ever seen an app experience that was so overloaded with requests for notifications, tracking, location services and pay-to-use currencies.
Everything requires either in-app currency or direct payment.

Thanks for the feedback. Permissions like notifications and location are optional and support specific features, but we understand that being asked for several permissions can feel overwhelming. Canary also has hundreds of free songs and features that don’t require payment or feathers. We’ll work on making this experience less intrusive.

Clever app!

Such a clever idea for language learning app. It’s a great supplement to more traditional courses or apps for learning, or use the paid version for more detailed and structured assistance in the learning. It’s definitely easier to use than Apple Music+Google if your goal is to sing along to songs, and more fun than traditional education apps. Thanks to targeted ads for bringing this to my attention!

Thanks for the feedback, but just to clarify, we have hundreds of free songs available, definitely not 1%. Premium gives access to our full catalog and features. We’re working on making the free songs much easier to discover so this is clearer
