About

Catacapea tells you where it’s worth looking for mushrooms today. The map colours the areas where the trees of the woods, altitude, aspect, the rain of the past weeks and the temperature are right for each species, and shows you the best spots in your area, each one checked. WHAT YOU GET • Scores for 26 common edible species of the Alps and Italy: porcini, chanterelles, Caesar’s mushrooms, honey fungus, parasols, horns of plenty and more. • Today’s 10 best spots, with the reasons: rain, temperature, forest type, altitude and aspect. • Forecast for the coming days. • Recent reports from other foragers (iNaturalist) and your own finds. • Hiking map with trails, relief and contour lines. • Compass back to a saved spot or the car, even without signal. • Picking rules of the place you’re in: Italy, Ticino and the Grisons, Austria and Bavaria. • Mushroom guide with Giacomo Bresadola’s plates and the dangerous look-alikes to know. • Woods: one tap and the map is coloured by tree (beech, chestnut, oak, spruce and fir, pine, larch), with the woods felled or blown down since 2018. You can also mark the trees of your own spots. • Identify: photograph a mushroom, compare it with the plates of the possible species and see what to check (cap, gills, stem, ring, base). You choose which one it is and save it as a find on the map; for edible species you also get how to clean and cook them, from official sources. • With Pro: record your day (route, car, mushrooms found) and download the area’s map to use it without signal. SAFETY No app can tell you if a mushroom is edible. Identify is a help, not a go-ahead: always have your harvest checked by an official mushroom inspector. FREE AND PRO Catacapea is free, and new accounts get 5 days of Pro as a gift. Then the free plan has every feature in a small way: your 3 km area, around you or at a point you choose on the map (changeable once a week), today’s forecast, the 3 best spots, 1 saved spot, 1 recorded day, 1 identification a month and the “flush coming” alert once a week. Compass, rules and mushroom guide are complete. If you like, a short video unlocks the other best spots or tomorrow’s forecast until midnight. Pro (€5.99 a month, the first month €3.99 for new subscribers, or €49.99 a year) opens everything, without videos: search wherever the app works (Italy, Italian-speaking Switzerland, Austria and Bavaria), radius up to 100 km, 7-day forecast, the 10 best spots, unlimited spots and days, “flush coming” notification and offline map. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the same price and for the same period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before it ends; you can manage and cancel it in your Apple ID settings. The app is available in English, Italian and German. Privacy: https://catacapea.app/en/privacy Terms and conditions: https://catacapea.app/en/termini

What's New in Catacapea

1.5.1

Satellite: now the starting map, with names of villages and trails; without signal it switches to the topographic map by itself. Identify: saves where you photographed the mushroom by itself (not in villages, can be turned off in Profile), shows the place on a small map, and if the AI is wrong you can choose the mushroom yourself or write its name. Alerts: “flush coming” now arrives every evening from our server, and if you like we let you know about gifts and news. Profile: choose the app's language.
