What if technology could see what we can't? The Changing Faces Project presents ED — Early Dementia Warning App Research & Development. Dementia affects over 57 million people worldwide, and up to 75% remain undiagnosed. ED is a pioneering research initiative exploring whether subtle facial changes — often invisible to the human eye — could serve as early warning signs of dementia, years before traditional symptoms appear. How it works Medical research suggests that people who go on to develop dementia may exhibit very slight facial changes up to 5–10 years before diagnosis. ED uses AI and facial recognition technology to investigate whether these patterns can be identified and tracked over time. By contributing a single weekly facial photograph, you become part of a growing global dataset that researchers will analyse to explore this possibility. The more people who participate, the stronger the data — and the greater the chance of a breakthrough. Why it matters Earlier detection could mean earlier intervention.
