Horrible
The website and app aren’t the same at all for starters. If you are winning a game and the opponent just closes the client or app, their timer will tick down to 0 and then it will say connection lost and you won’t receive your points. I’m constantly playing people + or - 400-500 elo above and below mine. Cheaters run rampant. Getting “flagged” is way too common due to extreme delay. There is no way to report a player for cheating on the app. The entire thing is a nightmare. The videos/training aren’t worth it what so ever. They’re poorly edited and put together. Hardly any different boards and Themes to choice from. And also I’m not even sure if the engine they use for the analysis is up to date. The latest version of stock fish smokes whatever the app has 10/10 games. I really tried everything the app and website had to offer. I love the game of chess and it’s community, but this has been a miserable experience. Last time I’m playing a game against a dude at 1230 elo and he’s playing engine move after engine move and gets away with it. I will be uninstalling and no longer continue to be a premium member.

Don’t use it for blitz or bullet on mobile
1. There’s a huge lag between move being made on server and move being shown to me. That means my time is spent on server instead of me thinking.
For me, it shows that the opponent is thinking and it’s time is counting down. Then, when the info arrives, the clocks are adjusted, the opponent suddenly gets back 2-3-4-5 or more seconds which are deducted consequently from my time. It just kills me.
2. Premoves are ignored. Can’t explain it, it shows as purple then after some time it’s deselected and it’s not happening. My educated guess is that somehow the app is notified that opponent moved but it cannot make my move because still waits for the opponent move and then is when abandons my premove.
All in all, making two taps to make a move is slow enough, but losing almost all of my time with the lag, losing the premoves means playing a blitz is an irritating torture.
I know there are other features in this app. But still, this is a mobile app, meaning a lot of people will use it to kill a few minutes with playing a few blitz games. Or to challenge a grandmaster in banter blitz. I simply won’t review how effective is learning openings on mobile…

Featureless?
Less features than the original blue chess24, only play unrated guests, no live tournaments, and no chess set skin support.
I still play and like the experience of the original chess24 app…this app is lacking to say the least.
The only thing I do like about this app is that the actually gameplay is smoother than its blue counterpart.

There is no hope
chess.com and lichess remain years ahead. my advice is to forget about chess24 being a playing platform, just enjoy their low-tech broadcasts.
Made for beginners not chess enthusiast
First blue version of app was great! Seemed to be designed by chess players for chess players. New orange version is okay but just okay. Seems to promote learning and educating new people about chess but the board and play is mah. The animation and touch feel is not needed for people to know how to play already. Old version was better.
