What's New in Chroma8
2.2.0
October 18, 2026
What's New in Chroma8 2.2 — all about colour - A palette bar under your canvas Every colour one tap away. Switch between 11 classic pixel-art palettes — PICO-8, Game Boy, NES, Commodore 64, CGA, DawnBringer 16 and 32, Sweetie 16, Endesga 32, AAP-64 and Resurrect 64 — or pick any colour at all. Colours you just used stay within reach, and the eyedropper picks any colour straight off your art. - Make your own palettes A new Palettes tab. Generate a palette from a colour harmony, your own colours, a gradient, a photo or your drawing, built from hue-shifted shading ramps the way pixel artists build them by hand. Or pick every colour yourself. Choose which palette your new Arts start with. - Import and export palettes Bring in .hex, .gpl, .pal and Paint.NET palettes, including any from Lospec. Share yours as HEX, GPL, PAL, TXT, ASE, ACT or PNG strips for Aseprite, GIMP, Photoshop and game engines. - Replace colours everywhere See every colour your art uses and how much. Swap one for another across a layer, a frame or the whole animation, with a before-and-after preview. Or fit a whole piece to any palette, with optional dithering. - Colour groups Find Groups sorts your colours into families — skin, hair, armour. Recolour a whole group in one step and shadows stay shadows, highlights stay highlights. - Colour versions Keep other shades for any group and save them as versions — a night look, a red team — then flip between them instantly without changing a single pixel. Export any version, or one sprite-sheet row per version for palette swaps in your game. - Photos into pixel art Turn a reference photo layer into real pixels on your palette, with dithering if you like. - Your palette on every export Add a palette card with hex codes to PNG, SVG and sprite-sheet exports, or zip the palette files right alongside them. Improvements and fixes - Quick strokes now stay solid, with no gaps however fast you draw - The canvas redraws faster - The toolbar fits on every iPhone. Brush size, tip and Recolour Only share one button, which turns blue while Recolour Only is on - Onion skin and frame rate open as small popovers on iPhone - Switching palettes now asks before discarding colours, groups or versions you added - VoiceOver reads every tool and button by name - The built-in guide covers palettes, colour groups and colour versions - Smaller improvements and fixes throughout Thanks for using Chroma8 — keep the pixel art coming!
