What's New in Clear Pitch Perfect Pitch Pro

1.4.6

June 13, 2021

Major sound update. New hybrid human-synth sounds. Users found the Yamaha voices unnatural, though in pitch & time, so we combined them with a studio vocalist recorded sound set, for the natural tone of real voice with the accuracy of synth voice. NB: vocal lyrics either human or synth are never entirely in tune re natural pitch variation but in Clear Pitch you are tuning to the instrument, with the lyrics there to assist mnemonically and for paired-associate learning, not as a reference pitch.

The sound quality hinders this good idea

Hiring or just asking someone with high pitch sensitive and a good ear to help choose or design sounds would make this a much more powerful and effective app. As the pitches are slightly off, you can’t learn as well as if they were better made. Great idea but still needs work.

Response from developer

Thank you for the feedback regarding the vocal synth sounds. I used Yamaha’s proprietary Vocaloid software because computer generated voices are perfectly in tune and time. However, I agree they don’t sound good enough and I am updating soon with real human voices. If it is the piano you don’t like it is a generated Yamaha piano sample and probably the best timbre to work with. Softer more pleasant sounds are not as effective for cuing our memory to chromas. I will see what I can do to lessen the sibilance issue but whenever two melodies occur simultaneously and one is a human voice it can be problematic. Please let me know if this covers your notes in this area. Regarding the functionality and PR2 mode, this is supposed to occur. PR2 activates once all other modes x chromas have been heard, then it stays locked on PR2 unless you reset. There are several reasons for this format, but you can consider all other modes as important preparation for PR2, so once covered you may get the most effectiveness from a long PR2 cycle. However, manual mode exists so that you can configure any mode to loop as you wish, or you can reset the app and skip through to any area you want. Please let me know if I have misunderstood anything or if I have addressed your queries. Cheers, Blake Kearney

you can feel it training your brain

if you listen closely, you’ll learn. it’s that simple.

Response from developer

Thank you, I appreciate you understanding and identifying the premise of the system. Listening and observing how the sounds begin to self organise in the brain is fascinating and is all that is required. The complexity is behind the scenes so that the listener just needs to listen and allow the various sound combinations to form the neural relationships. If you have found the system to work for you, please feel free to contact me for research and pre release material. Regards, Blake Kearney

Awesome and fun

Awesome and fun. I feel like I am learning, and working with it everyday. I love the little catchy tunes. I get back with results!

Response from developer

Thank you, it is awesome and fun learning perfect pitch so I'm delighted that my app reflects that. The tunes are fun right. It took a long time to create them because they needed to be both 'tune like' but also algorithmic - the tunes contain the code that instructs the brain to connect the sound data.

What a great idea!

Although it’s early, I’m already noticing progress.
Outstanding customer service. Very excited, will check back later.

Needs more sounds...

Starts with just piano sounds needs other instruments to further testing the ear with. also maybe expand the octaves toward the extremes on the piano...it is only two octave range...also be nice to have sheet music for the 12 songs...so far I enjoy it just wish you could change to saxophone or flute or some other instrument...

Response from developer

Thanks for the observation. Could you let me know if you have attained full recall of all 12 chromas? I do have multi timbral versions with a wider range but the system uses timbral consistency for mnemonic reasons and it is important users don't skip ahead until they have mastered the 12 pitch classes. I am happy to share the current research with you, and if you are hearing all 12 chromas there is a research program you may be interested in. Cheers, Blake Kearney
