What's New in Coached Run
1.20.1
October 1, 2026
Reps can now be run by distance and not only by time. You pick 400, 600, 800, 1,000, 1,200 or 1,600 metres, or what they come to in miles, and the coach counts in metres. It calls halfway through the rep, the last hundred, and the moment to jog and recover. Pyramids and ladders run this way too, and so does fartlek. You can also build the whole session yourself, in My plan, which now sits next to Time and Distance. You choose how much warm-up you want, how long each rep lasts and how many there are, how long you rest between them and how much you cool down. Give it a name, it is kept in Your plans, and you run it again whenever you like, by time or by distance. There is a new fitness and fatigue chart that builds itself from every run, and a twelve-minute test to see where you stand. No fast running in it. Repeat it every six weeks and the app tells you when it is due. The fitness score has been calibrated again and now it means something. It tells the difference between going for a run and being fit, and it leans more on what your body says, such as how far your heart rate drops when you stop, than on what the calendar says. Open it and you see what it is made of, how much each part contributes and what you would have to move to raise it. If you use Apple Health, the app tells you how you are doing when you open it. It looks at your heart rate variability, your resting heart rate and the hours you slept, and from that it suggests pushing or easing off. The coach knows it from the first minute of the session. When you finish and walk it off, the coach tells you how many beats you dropped in that first minute. It is the clearest sign of whether you are improving, and it goes into a chart with all your measurements so you can see where they are heading. The six coaches now talk in their own words. Sarah, Mike and Iris in English, Diego, María and Luis in Spanish. What Sarah says halfway through a rep is nothing like what Mike would say. Added as well are a profile photo, a landscape screen for the treadmill and a backup of your history in case you change phones. The pause now shows in red and you hear it, so there is no way to leave the session stopped without noticing. And if you bought Coached Run back when it cost money, you have full access at no further cost. The app checks your original purchase and unlocks it by itself.
