Complete ripoff

I was a beta tester for this app and the developer hid pricing from everyone who asked until launch, then locked the conversation on Reddit when pricing was announced so no one could discuss it.

There are other developers making similar apps that have good pricing. Don’t support this greedy and dishonest developer!

Thank you for beta testing Coax! Can you help me understand how you feel I am dishonest? Not stating the price before launch is not lying or misleading, and you were free to not use the beta until a price was announced. I never said or even implied it would be inexpensive - I took pains to communicate that it would be priced higher than some folks were thinking.

Worth the money

After many updates, lots of new features, and the addition of Jellyfin support, it’s worth the money.

Amazing app

Using Coax has made watching my own media on my home server fun again. It makes it a joy to flip through channels, like we used to in the 90s, to stumble onto a funny or interesting scene and end up watching a whole episode or film of something you hadn’t thought of in a long while. It’s too easy to have decision paralysis with a large media library and Coax takes that away. The creator has also been very active with constant updated and even replies to any troubleshooting messages on Reddit right away. I recommend this for anyone who has Plex and wants another way to watch their content.

Novel idea but pricing is nuts

Cute idea. Reasonably well implemented. But that lifetime price is absurd. Truly absurd. Removing from my devices.

How to deal with a big server

Don’t get me wrong. Some stuff I want to watch on demand.

But most of my stuff? I forgot I even downloaded it. I’ve had this app since the start and it’s really been improving every day and the developer is hyper responsive to feedback.
It’s so much faster with 1.4 at generating channels, and keeping my schedule fresh. Great for kids and for just flipping through channels. Highly recommended!

You get what you pay for

Well worth the price of admission. We use it everyday. It’s a great app with consistent updates. The latest update (complete rebuild of the video engine) has completely exceeded my expectations. I can’t recommend this app enough. It’s not cheap. But I believe it’s worth the asking price.

Love this App

This app helps take the guess work out of what to watch or what to play when we have guess over now. It just runs and with channel select i can chose kids shows and not have to fiddle with plex shuffle. Just choose the channel and go.

My Plex server is an ocean of content. Now, I can surf on it.

The price may be high, but for $3/mo you can give it a shot and see if it scratches your itch to view your Plex content in cable tv format on the apple ecosystem.

The developer is incredibly responsive and is always looking for feedback etc.

Theres nothing like it yet for iOS/MacOS/tvOS. Setting up and maintaining something like ErstatzTV on my plex server is too much work. This app does all the work for me.

Now, if youll excuse me I have to go fill up the next 5tb on my server while I watch an endless stream of my own content complete with bumpers and commercials.

“C-c-catch the wave!”

I love this nostalgic nod to tv days gone by. Excellent implementation and you can feel the care put into recreating the experience. I’m interested to see where this goes!

Discover the Hidden Gems

I really love the way this app helps me find endless content to watch that has been languishing way too long on my Plex server and just had to buy it. It’s such a cool retro implementation that’s fun for us oldies who remember the way it used to be before everything was available on demand.

Having said that there are a few features that would take it to the next level for me that would make it a 5 star app and my everyday go to for content discovery such as:

1. Being able to select any combination of genres or other parameters to build a custom schedule from. I have a ton of sci fi and would love to be able to have an entire schedule of just sci fi content to peruse. Or maybe I just want to see a schedule of movies from 1979 e.g.

2. The ability to save the above described custom schedules as presets.

3. The ability to select content items from any cell in the guide view.

4. A long press to bring up the option to play the currently viewed item from beginning, and/or to open it directly in Plex to play.

These features would be game changers for me. Keep up the good work helping us to discover and rediscover what we already have!

Thank you so much for the feedback and the feature requests! I'll take some of these into consideration. Check out the subreddit (reddit.com/r/coax) if you want to follow the app's development more closely 😊

Disappointing Pricing

I tried COAX during the TestFlight period and while it is a cool product, the developer has admitted to heavy use of AI, which would have been fine IF he hadn’t given the community a whole sob story about how much time and effort he had put in and needed to price it at the astronomical price of $60. This software would have already been overpriced at that number, but the fact that it is basically a vibe coded weekend project makes that number even more wild.

Now that alternatives are showing up I will be looking to them.

Love this app!

For the past 30 years, I had subscriptions for HBO, Cinemax, etc and anytime I would turn on the TV, I would only watch the movie channels to avoid commercials. This gives me that exact same experience and it works beautifully with Plex! Price is def a little high but since I was able to ditch 2 of my cable boxes, I’m gonna be saving money after about 5 months. An incredible app and it just keeps getting better with every update.

Best Purchase since Infuse Pro and Plex Pass

This app is the perfect compliment to my suite of media server apps. Works flawlessly, a cinch to get going with, dramatically reduces decision fatigue, and it’s a really fun way to explore the content I already have but might have forgotten about, or knew I had but there’s just something different about scrolling show/movie thumbnails vs this model which replicates the experience of “appointment television” and what it all felt like before on-demand or streaming … dropping you right into a show and immediately reminding you what you loved about it. Giving you an engaging and immersive way to flip through your library … I can’t put into words what a value add this is to my setup. Great work. Truly.

Best App of 2026

Provides everyone the ability to easily turn their personal media library into a nostalgic wonderland of comfort. Doesn’t require almost any work to get going, and my fiance is as addicted to it as I am!

Great app!

I love the idea of this app and so far it works flawlessly. I hope this app sticks around for awhile, I’ll definitely be using it.

Test flight tested the app

I can’t believe they’re trying to ask this much. $60 bucks is an insane ask. I tested the app and was never asked about pricing. Honestly the devs should rename the app “avarice” because that’s more in line with their passion it seems

Thanks for beta testing 🙏🏼

A hit of nostalgia

Remember when you didn’t have a choice of what to watch on TV? How you just kinda got what you got and didn’t need to think about it? We have that again with this app! However, the best part (in my opinion), is that now we can experience that with our own curated libraries. No junk, only what we want.

Even beta tester can’t afford it

The developer intentionally hid pricing from everyone who supported the development of this app. When he announced the insane, ridiculous, pricing on Reddit, he even locked the comments on the post so people couldn’t directly complain.

You can buy full phot and video editors for half the price of Coax. There is no justification to charge close to $100 for what is a cool nostalgic gimmick.

What a middle finger to the community and beta testers like myself who poured countless hours into testing this before launch.

Plex content as TV

This is a fantastic way to enjoy your plex media. Coax turns your media into an old school television style viewing with full tv guide.
