Can’t use true north

Apple’s Compass app is unbelievable. Turn “Use True North” on and the compass freezes or stops working. Turn it back off and it immediately works again. That completely defeats the purpose of having a True North option in the first place.
What’s even more frustrating is that App Store reviews show people have been reporting this exact problem for years, yet Apple still hasn’t fixed it. A compass that can’t reliably switch between magnetic north and true north isn’t much of a compass.
If you’re hiking, camping, navigating, or trying to do something as simple as aim solar panels accurately, this bug makes the feature essentially useless. Apple should either fix it or remove the option instead of leaving users to discover it doesn’t work.

Doesn’t work with iPhone 17
The compass doesn’t work for iPhone 17. Facing North and it shows facing West. It’s out 90 degrees.
There are 360* not 0
When I go directly north it says 0* but it’s 360* so I would like to complain that it is wrong

Never works right
I’ll literally be headed north on the interstate and check the maps and I know I’m headed exactly north and it thinks I’m headed literally any direction but north and it changes. Super inaccurate and there’s no way to calibrate it if it’s off

Solved Frozen North
I read a lot of reviews from people whose compass was frozen on north. As was mine. Then I read a review for a different compass app and it said “just make sure your phone case doesn’t have a magnet.” Duh. I took my phone out of my case and voilá!

Compass is so good i get boners to them they are peak boredom usages. Steve jobs’ ghost controls the compass and it always tells me if im north south west or east. This app daved my life from a car wreck and salmonella

Hard to give any starts at all if it's dysfunctional
It worked for a while, and then I found it would be wildly off. Sometimes 180° off, sometimes roughly 90° off. The only fix Apple has for it is to wave it in a figure 8 or perhaps shut it down and reopen it. Come on Apple. This seems pretty basic having a compass that even mostly works.
Shows incorrect direction
The app has been poorly performing since few years now. It doesnot show the right directions which is the main purpose of having this app.
