COMPOSE — set type, spell lines. Sorts of type fall into the galley. Slide and rotate them, fill a line, and it clears. But the compositor's real prize is a SET LINE: complete a line that spells a word and it flushes to letterpress red, worth far more than a plain clear. Stack too high and the forme jams — OVERSET.
