Monthly fee

A one time fee would be easier to manage. Paying a subscription for copyrighted material I already own? The convenience does not outweigh the price. Offer a “ lifetime” one payment option.

Fricking game changer!

I have so many cookbooks and yes, I know where some of my favorite recipes are but a lot I do not. I would say out of 200 cookbooks. The app had 85% maybe 90% of them indexed. I requested indexing with all the rest of them, we’ll see if it happens. But now I just add a search for an ingredient and then all of the recipes from all of my books come up and I get to choose. It is so easy now. I have Kindle cookbook and physical cookbook and I was able to find most of them and add them to my shelf. I love this app so so much my other favorite app is ReciMe! The only downside is, I guess I have no excuse to not to cook at home.❤️

Obsessed with this app

I am an avid cookbook collector and curious home cook. I have over 75 cookbooks, and this app has transformed the way I interact with my beloved books. If you have ever been over-eager at the farmers market, but then get home and wonder, “ok, what can I make with this __”, all you have to do is type the item in the search and the app offers all the recipes in your books, what page they are on and ingredients needed. If you want to make a frittata, you can search for all the recipes to choose from in your library. You can bookmark recipes, read reviews, and see photos from other users. I am now reaching for my books more often, discovering new recipes, and truly diving into my book collection (vs being overwhelmed or forgetting where to find recipes). It’s easy to add books by scanning the bar codes. Such a great app!

Not worth it

This app came highly recommended by a friend so I gave it a chance. I should have done better research. It’s basically just a glorified search of (some of) your cookbooks. Not all of mine were indexed. I know how to use a table of contents, so I don’t need this app. I incorrectly assumed my phone would replace my cookbooks, and that I could view recipes on my phone. I don’t want both my phone and a cookbook, it’s just an extra unneeded step. Unless you have a ton of similar cookbooks, save your money and just scan your the indexes and tables of contents in your books with your eyes instead of your phone.

Best tool ever for cooks

My cooking life changed when I started using this app. I have about 250 cookbooks. I love them on my shelf, love the kindle versions, love everything about them. Except when I cant remember which one had that recipe that I now can find. Has not happened since I started using this app. And I’ve rediscovered some books that I forgot all about. It’s perfect for ensuring I get the best use out of all my cookbooks, as well as keep track of what I’ve cooked, my favorites and notes.

Subscription/Rental

I absolutely refuse to rent software, especially at $50/year. They lost me during the sign up process when they asked which rental plan I wanted. Apple really needs to start saying which apps are purchase and which are subscription based. Could be a cool app otherwise. The FOK recipe app was $2 for a lifetime (purchase!) and they continuously add new recipes and allow you to search by ingredients.

Sold!

I’ve been looking for an app that does exactly this! I have more than 100 cookbooks, and it has always been so time-consuming to flip through them trying to find the perfect recipe. This app is a total game changer. It makes it so easy to search across all of my cookbooks and quickly find exactly what I’m looking for. I highly recommend it to anyone with a large cookbook collection!

Life Altering!

I cannot believe how wonderful this app is, and they're adding cookbooks all the time. That said, 62 of ours were already in there, and to be able to search all of them at once is incredible! I'll be using my cookbooks so much now. This also has a meal planning calendar and a grocery list tab, so you can plan your week ahead. I have 155 cabbage recipes to select from--oh, the joy, the wonderful joy.

Heading in the right direction

I am a cook and cookbook collector- but I never use my cookbooks because I never have time to sit and search them. I have been trying to figure out how to do what your app is attempting for years on my own (some things work some didn’t… but I’m no developer)

I hope you continue to support and improve this app, and I will be a life long subscriber.

But some issues I’ve been running into is: 1) the more books you add the slower it gets, the functionality gets weird (like it gets stuck), and it chews through my battery. 2) the grocery list is basically garbage, it’s not accurate so I need to look at the book and build my list from there. (Is it because the authors don’t want having ingredients if they didn’t buy the book)?

Best Ever

A brilliant app for those with a large cookbook collection. I can quickly find recipes, check ingredients, locate the right book, and get cooking. It has made using my cookbook library so much easier.

Would love to see improvements to this great app!

CookShelf single-handedly makes it possible for me to use cookbooks at all, and I’m VERY grateful for that. There are however a few improvements I’d like to see.

1) The grocery list feature: I understand why recipe steps aren’t in the app, but it makes no sense to me that CS doesn’t include recipe quantities. It makes grocery planning so much more fiddly and annoying. Items should have the option to be swiped to be checked off (and tapped to edit) as it’s too easy to mistakenly remove them. The auto grocery sorting in Paprika 3 is much better, with categories that match US grocery aisles (I realize this may not be a US-centric app, but there isn’t even a Dairy or Other option…). Paprika 3 also combines the same ingredients from different recipes into 1 entry; CS does not.

2) Recipe photos cannot be tapped to enlarge them - this makes some pics impossible to view clearly, especially on iPad.

3) Would love to be able to sort every recipe in a book by ratings/popularity instead of seeing just the top 5.

4) Would love to see all recipes I’ve cooked from a book, not just all my cooks - wastes time to scroll through repeat cooks of the same recipe.

5) Would love to be able to quickly submit feedback/feature requests to devs via the app.

6) Nice to have - would love to be able to add friends and follow their cooks.

Does scan well at all on iPhone 15 pro max

Does scan well at all on iPhone 15 pro max. It shows es the wrong lens I think. And the search for ingredient is not finding much :( £40 is too much

Amazing and very useful apl

I have 100+ cookbooks in Kindle. As someone who cooks 3-4 times a day, I wanted exactly an app like this. Now I am able to search for recipes and if i have the listed ingredients, I will check my Kindle ebook. Total game changer. Great work👏

Barely any reviews of individual recipes

I’ve been a user of the website for years and one of the biggest reasons for that is the inclusion of user reviews for individual recipes. They are so useful for helping me decide which recipes to make and which to skip, so it’s hugely disappointing that only a few (three to four) recipe reviews are included with each book on the app.
Also, buying cookbooks through the website is very easy - I haven’t seen a way to do that through the app.
The website isn’t perfect, but it’s far more useful to me than this app has been

I truely LOVE this app!

If you, like me, love cookbooks, you end up not cooking from some of your cookbooks because you forget them or are overwhelmed by which one to use. This app acts as a giant database for my more than 50 cookbooks and allows me so search say cold noodles and see all the recipe options I wine across all of them. It has helped me better use my cookbooks and find recipes I would probably have overlooked if I had not had it.

disappointing

i have seen a lot of press about this and it seemed like a great tool i was only really going to use the cataloging feature so i was disappointed when you was only allowed 5 books before having to subscribe it just seemed silly to me and i don’t think its worth paying just for the privilege to catalog more books maybe this just isn’t the app i was looking for.

Didn’t get it

It’s anounced like an app that will help you to classify your recipes, but I scanned 3 barcodes and then nothing happened. Requested index then, but naver happened. Is one of those app that sound like a good idea but with very poor implementation.

Very happy with this

I understand some of the critiques of the app, such as not containing full recipes, quantities, etc. I’m sure most of that has to deal with licensing.

But the fact that it categorizes my 70+ cookbooks by ingredient, and then shows both the page number (in most cases) and recipe ingredients (most of them) is a game changer for me. Definitely worth the price IMO.

Unlock Your Bookshelf

I am so happy to have found this app! I feel like I suddenly have real access to all of these great cookbooks that have been taunting me. I had actually stopped buying cookbooks, but now I know I’ll actually be able to use them again so yes, I’ll be buying new cookbooks again. On a side note, the indexing of magazines is incredible! THANK YOU for making this.

Easy to search

I really enjoy using this app. I’ve even scanned a couple of old Betty Crocker cookbooks, which is awesome. One thing that would be a tremendous upgrade to this app was if we could also add our pantry items. Then the app could tell us what recipes we can make with what we got.
