A very good sounding synth, but preset system is problematic

Every single time this synth app has been updated it wiped out my own custom presets. That is unacceptable behavior for a production synth, so I can no longer use or recommend this.

Response from developer

Are you placing your custom presets in your own bank and not altering the default presets? The default presets will be replaced each time we install a new version of the app. This bank is reserved for me to add and expand upon the presets that ship with Copperhead. I will certainly check into whether there is an issue with other banks but since I have multiple people working on new preset packs I would have thought they would have come across this by now if it was a general issue. Have you uninstalled the app at all? When uninstalling all your presets will be removed. NOTE: Just performed a couple of re-installations and all my custom banks (I have 6) and the contents of my user bank are intact, so I can only assume you saved your presets in the 'Default' bank.

Fans of Subtractor and Sunrizer, Yamaha 80's

Will absolutely adore this synth.
Might be the most feature packed synth along with woodman's wood synth.

Love this one

AMAZING synth from 4pockets - 😌

Nice but….

Unfortunately automation recording is not working in Logic Pro for iPad. Please fix it, this synth is worth 5 stars if it works properly.

Great Synth with Fun Features

You can produce any sound you can imagine with this synth… really! Do watch the videos in the help menu for a complete tutorial. I\while Copperhead is very intuitive, it’s worth watching the vids to get the most out of it.
There are amazing features. Not least is the preset banks by the amazing sound designer Spidercemides! You can essentially dump all his presets into a favorites folder. But don’t. If you decide to remove a preset from the Favorites folder you’ll end up deleting the preset from just about everywhere. A small bug which I’m sure will be fixed. I needed to reinstall the app to recover the presets.
Another amazing feature is the waveform editor. It has something I’ve never seen before, a slider for each fundamental of a sound wave! This is a big deal. You can design some extraordinary sounds and learn about how sounds are made with this tool. I’ve never seen it before and i have a ton of synths. One thing missing however is a way to save the sounds you’ve designed. It will be there when you save the preset of course but it would be nice to develop an original sound library.
The only very minor problem i have is the the menu diving needed to open some critical windows like ā€˜effects’ and ā€˜favorites.’ It’s only three taps to get to the window but other designers have brought you these windows a bit less clumsily.
Another problem is there’s no way to access the developer’s page… if it even exists. I’m surprised because this is a major developer with an awesome offering of apps. If you hit the developer’s website link you’ll basically be forwarded to a management consultant company which I’m pretty sure is the furthest thing from music as a business can be.
Overall, a great synth and an incredible value!

MPE baby!

Thank you for adding MPE—what a tremendous boon to an already great synth! I might have to go create some more Stellar Anomalies (presets) for this now—and for StringLab when I get it. Excellent!

Please test the AU version for Logic Pro on macOS

Seems to crash Logic Pro as soon as file is opened. Thanks.

Best synth I’ve come across

This is a brilliant synth, thanks guys. I’ve found it great for creating organ sounds. USR is particularly useful. It is my ā€˜go to’ synth. Complements the other 4pockets apps. I’m still exploring. Rotary speaker effect would be a great addition for me.

Great sounds…but how do we report the bugs??

Been using it for several months as my main sound engine.
But it’s got some small issues here and there, like any software.
My main gripe is there’s no documented way to contact the developer.
4pockets.com goes to an blank web page.
ā€œSupportā€ options on the App Store go to Karl Marketing…a lot of good that does.

Look in the online help…no mention of support channels.

Where’s the main place Paul goes to see user postings of the bugs they’ve encountered?? Anybody know?

5 star synth

This just gets better and better with each update. My ā€œgo toā€ synth now .update, now also my favourite strings . Is there a place to share presets? Got some big strings going on .

Much better than it looks, and it gets very nice updates too.

While an easy to use, understand and master synth, copperhead has a lot more going for it than any other two, or you could say three, oscillator virtual analogue. Only real annoyances are the limited Lfo, envelope and modulation possibilities. The sequencer is a brilliant touch, since it allows for the changing of pretty much everything, but more lfos and envelopes on top, and more oscillators, would be very nice too. It’s probably the only thing that bugs me about copperhead really…

Paul the Music Man strikes gold again

This synth is fantastic. Brilliant sounds, great layout, easy to use and lots of ways to morph and manipulate the sounds. I love the Gater and the sequencer and having initially experienced a distinct time lag with syncing up with other apps via AUM, this problem seems to be completely fixed now so thank you Paul for your continued services to iOS music making!

Astounding value

Great versatility, great for learning subtractive, but with great and useful externals bolted on. Faultless

Another winner from Paul @ 4pockets.com

One of the Hardest working devs on ios! Happy to support! Great sounding and light on cpu! Been using it everyday since buying! Thanks šŸ™

The full package

Not only a very capable synth, but also supported with a detailed series of YouTube videos by the developer - concisely walking you through all of the features.

This would have been my perfect first synth. I remember all too well not knowing my VCO fro my LFO and not having any sense at all how my VCF fit into the picture. I can’t even imagine how much learning time I could have save by having access to Copperhead and the matching masterclasses.

The layout works as well on iPhone as iPad, both in standalone and as an Audio Unit. That makes it really suitable to use as my main workhorse synth.

As with all 4Pockets app, the consistency in design ensures that learning one app transfers to all of the other ones, which is always appreciated and helps me make the most out of my music time.

Highly recommended, and if you are new to synths - don’t shy away from this one because it doesn’t have that ā€œnewbie’s first synthā€ look. In a couple of days you’ll be synthing more than you’d ever believe possible.

I like it

Another winner from Paul. I’ve spent only a short time with it but I’m seeing a lot of possibilities and a better user experience than several of the synths I already have.
