App sux when it comes to importing scripts

Tried importing multiple times, multiples ways after reading FAQ explanation of how it is supposed to be done. Failed. God forbid coding the app to directly access/open the file directly……or worse, have a spot to drag and drop the file for importing. <sarc>

Do not wast your time.

Great potential, lacking execution

This app has the potential to be a godsend when you can’t find a reader, but the bugs it currently has make it at best infuriating, and at worst unusable. It will randomly decide it’s gonna ignore all cue words anywhere in the script (frustrating, especially while in a long scene), the first reader line echos very loudly in playback like 70% of the time (borderline unusable), and will sometimes bug an entire script so hard it will start reading a line and then skip half the script and start playing a line 10 lines ahead of where you are every time(unusable); changing cue words, manually reentering lines, deleting and reentering lines, nothing works. The script is permanently bugged, and if you’re importing it, it’s bugged forever. I suspect it’s something with the AI voice as recording the lines yourself and keeping it in your own voice seems to solve the problem. It still needs a video playback in the app so you don’t have to wait for an export to see it, and the AI voices, while novel, are mostly unhelpful as readers as they have a monotone, obviously AI delivery. As it stands, stay on the free version.

Response from developer

Hey there, Thank you for your review - it's super helpful. We are always trying to make Counterpart better, especially for taping. Would you mind telling us which scripts these issues happen on? We want to see what specifically is going on. Please reach out to us at hello@counterpart.actor We really look forward to hearing from you!

Game Changer!!

I absolutely LOVE this app. It’s more efficient and functions better than any other tool for the same function. Highly recommend for actors, this is a must

10/10

Always use this when I go on walks to memorize my audition scenes.

Confusing and doesn’t really work

There is not much to it. Even with minimal functions it’s overly complicated. When trying to upload scrips it would miss pages at a time. There are a lot better options out there

FAQ

How does Counterpart's voice technology work for line prompting?

Counterpart uses specialized voice recognition to listen for your cue word, typically the last word of your dialogue. Once spoken, it automatically advances to the next line, simulating a real reading partner and aiding memorization.

Can I import any type of script into Counterpart?

Yes, Counterpart supports importing PDF scripts, including standard scripts, scanned pages, and sides from auditions, even if they are watermarked. Its OCR technology analyzes up to 10 pages at a time.

What options do I have for the 'reader' voice in Counterpart?

You can choose to use your own recorded voice, a friend's recorded voice, or high-quality AI text-to-speech for a conversational rehearsal experience. This flexibility allows for diverse practice scenarios.

How does Counterpart help with memorizing lines faster?

By actively listening and advancing scenes, Counterpart creates a continuous rehearsal flow that minimizes interruptions. This allows actors to stay present and memorize scripts more naturally and efficiently.

Can I adjust how Counterpart recognizes my lines?

Absolutely. You can edit dialogue, change cue words to improve recognition or overlap dialogue, and modify or replace reader audio. This ensures a smooth rehearsal process even with challenging scripts.

Does Counterpart offer silent rehearsal options?

Yes, for silent rehearsal, Counterpart generates automatic flashcards for every scene. This feature makes it easy to memorize lines visually or review your script without speaking, ideal for commutes.

How often is Counterpart updated?
