An interesting idea that’s missing something

The game is an interesting concept and has some fun mechanics. It’s got some interesting strategy choices with the different creatures you can bring into battle and the abilities they bring. The music and sound effects are decent.

However, I feel like it’s missing polish. To start with, you can only pick between a white man (default, with blond hair and blue eyes) or white woman until you go through the initial training. Then you can change to a medium or dark-skinned man or woman, rather than presenting those options at the start.

There’s also a lack of visual consistency. UI looks totally different from the environment, which looks different than the creatures. Even the UI isn’t always consistent in appearance. Most visuals are 2D, but some are strangely low-res 3D that clips.

This game is marketed towards kids but there’s addictive mechanics like daily rewards or rewards every few hours. Playing takes energy that recharges over time. There’s also the typical large amount of microtransactions to speed things up, get more energy, get better things, etc. You don’t really need any of it to play, but it could be easy for kids to get addicted and spend a lot of money on it.

I think with more polish and less addictive mechanics the game would be better. Overall 3/5. Not a bad experience but definitely still needs some work.

Response from developer

Thank you! This is one of the most useful reviews I've gotten so I'm reading every word. You're right about that initial character selection screen, I wanted to keep it as minimal as possible but locking the other skin tones behind the avatar maybe was perhaps too subtle, an oversight, not a design choice. I'm planning a fix where there are more options from the start for the next update. On visual consistency, this is a fair point. I'm a solo developer building over many iterations with the UI, environment and creature art during often different phases of the project. Unifying the look is certainly on the roadmap, I've started with some creatures I wasn't initially happy with, it's a larger fix but it will come. On the monetization concern, I'll definitely note this. I've been very close to removing energy entirely, it's actually why right now you can almost never run out of energy. But I wanted to make sure nothing meaningful was ultimately paywalled and I didn't want pay to win tactics, I'll keep looking at how this reads to new players, especially parents as I have kids of my own. Certainly not targeted to young children but to a bit more of a mature player given the difficulty of card play and deck building mechanics. I also wanted some more mercy driven rules so it's not all true fomo gacha based, so I'm working on those improvements. I hope you stay along for the ride and updates and keep providing feedback!
