Scoring
I have always loved playing cribbage and this game is great to play although I would have liked the opportunity for automatic scoring with less time having to press continue all the time - great game though
Grampa is a good dude
Peter is a lonely guy who just likes a good old fashioned game of cribbage. He’s a little cranky..but in a loving way. He does beat me a lot, which does get under my skin, but I don’t let it show because gramps has been through enough. Good game, recommended!
No Muggins
It runs smoothly, but you can’t call Muggins on grandpas.. they can only call it on you.
Weighted hands
It took me a few hundred games to figure out that grandpa’s hands are weighted heavily on the highest difficulty. I always suspected it and other reviews here confirmed it. It’s very frustrating. I wish the cards were random because otherwise I love everything about this app and have recommended it to friends who bought it. If you’re new to the game it’s great because it will give you good hands on lower difficulties but the game will always keep you down games on the highest difficulty. So frustrating. Time to look for a new cribbage app

I wish the deals were random and not weighted
TLDR: The AI deals non random hands to give the illusion of various difficulties.
I’ve played cribbage for 20+ years and this used to be my favorite app on my phone. Recently I’ve been playing cribbage more consistently both irl and on this app. I started to feel frustrated when playing against grandpa, that something was off compared to what I was expecting. It felt like no matter what you could never get ahead, that grandpa kept getting especially lucky.
Well I decided to run a few tests to see if I was just making things up. I started playing cribbage on a different app and didn’t experience any of these feelings, the game felt fair. Then I came back to this app and started tracking points for hands. Grandpa got high scoring hands a lot more often than I did and a lot more often than either player did on the other cribbage app. Then I put the difficulty to the lowest setting. I suddenly started getting incredible hands consistently! I would then start to discard to the crib the cards that would make my hand the worst, the flip would then be a card that made my hand great. If I started to not score my hand Grandpa’s hand would then get worse.
After that I just deleted the game and then came here to write my first app review in a decade. If you all ever put in a fair randomization where the skill level changes instead of weighting the deal I’ll be back as I love the aesthetic and feel of the gameplay compared to other apps.

Great game
I generally don’t have the patience to play games on my phone, this is the only one. I really like the premise (playing with your “Grandpa”) and appreciate it’s simplicity and it’s lack of micro transactions, in-app purchases and leaky/questionable privacy policies. I’m not sure if it’s still in active development, but I’m glad I can keep my cribbage chops up regardless.

Level balance is bad
Inconsistent play with level balancing. From difficulty 3 and under there is no challenge. Anything over 4 is impossible and it’s not related to skill. Bad AI.
Grandpa Cheats
I don’t for a minute believe that the game plays with randomized card deals. The grandpa has constant 15+ pt hands while I draw garbage every turn. 5 stars
Love it, except…
The banter is repetitive and boring. If the developer replaced it with an AI large language model, it could be a lot more creative and entertaining.
Cozy and comforting
After nine years, I keep coming back to this game. It’s so thoughtfully made. I really hope it remains compatible with iOS updates as it ages.
Cute and instructional though unfair
Very cute! I love my personalized “Papa”—looks a lot like he did. My favorite is when Grandpa falls asleep waiting for you, and when you wake him up, he says “I was just having the best dream that I was spending time with my favorite person!” That brought a tear to my eye! The hints and tips from Grandpa are helpful. It’s definitely not for the purpose of trying to win, because the cards are 90% dealt in favor of Grandpa – but what’re you gonna do. Let the sweet old man have his last few wins in life, and enjoy the lessons. Even when Grandpa gets his astounding 16-point hands (which he often does, while you count your single pair), it is a learning experience to watch him count his score. And if you forget something when counting yours, he helpfully reminds you. Too cute. Great for beginners and for a quick meetup with Papa. (The cell phone interface to “call Grandpa” to play is super cute.)

Nostalgic
I made a character that resembles my Dad who has dementia, and has always loved crib. Crib is one of the few things his mind still excels at, yet his cheeky jokes have dissipated. Being able to make. Character that resembles his personality and looks has been therapeutic. Thank you for allowing me this experience during this tough time.

Playing with my grandpa again.
I grew up playing pool and cribbage with my family, moody notably my grandpa. He died over 20 years ago and I miss him a lot, but I get to recreate that in some small way with this app.
Stick with it!
Cribbage can be baffling to start. Following the clear explanation and repetitive game play causes the fog to lift and an addictive game emerges.
So much fun
Finally a friendly Cribbage game with a scoring coach patterned after someone I loved. Can adjust speed for slow readers and slow scorers. Super helpful. Great idea.
I love my grandpas
I’ve played this game more than any other on my phone. Cozy, clean, a great way to learn the game or keep up your crib chops. Full of delightful details and seasonal easter eggs (especially lovely to play during christmas!)
