Great concept but bad execution

This is a great app which had the potential to fit my needs perfectly. I googled a while for this and was happy when I found out it existed. But upon opening the app, I noticed a flaw immediately which pretty much renders this app useless to me.

I’m currently traveling in Colombia. The exchange rate is currently 1 USD to about 4,467 COP. It works decently converting dollars to Colombian pesos besides a flaw that I’ll get to later. But when you reverse them, to convert pesos to dollars, it apparently limits the conversion number to 5 decimal places, and then proceeds to use that inaccurate rate to convert. For example, it converts 50,000 pesos to 10 dollars with a conversion of 0.00002, when its actually 11.19 dollars (conversion rate 0.000022). It gets worse with bigger numbers.

Secondly, it doesn’t seem to capture prices where they write the dollar amount in a big font and the cents in a smaller font without the dot separator, like on Amazon. So it thinks $39.99 is $3,999. It also doesn’t always work even in the right format, or takes a while, and then only shows the conversion for about a second before disappearing.

As for preferences, I find it annoying that when using the camera, the number is to go in the box which is placed closer to the top of the screen. I would also like for it to work with the phone sideways. And I wish it showed the $ symbol. When there are two numbers close to each other, like “$10 - $20”, it only converts one and isn’t very obvious which one.

I hope to see improvements as this app would be an amazing help when traveling, especially to countries where I will actually be completely unfamiliar with the currency system.

Support links’ issues...

I get “the web page could not load” when viewing currency formats. Contact us submission don’t work (nothing happens) after proving I am not a bot. Using an old iPhone 6+ (iOS v12.4.8).

Not Bad.

Suggestions.
1. The ability to take a picture of the conversion.

2. Auto convert the currency without having to select the currency manually.

Overall extremely useful and accurate!

Response from developer

Thanks James. The from currency can now be automatically set from your location as you travel.

Doesn’t support periods vs commas

Some countries use periods instead of commas and this app can’t tell the difference. 2.960ISK is not .027 USD.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. All currency formats are now fully supported.
