Should/Will be 5 stars when critical bug is quashed
Open plugin, set output channel to 3. Close plugin. Open plugin and channel is back to 1. 😠
This is a critical error/bug if you can’t route multiple instances.
Fix this and it’s a 10 star app.
Endless fun
Want to love, but
In stand alone mode it cannot connect to any other app. As soon as you open another app the play head will no longer move. It also won’t see any other app as a MIDI destination. I have yet be be able to get it to play a synth and I have tried a few. This leaves AUM.
Inside AUM, it does work until you turn on Ableton link. After that, Cykle never knows where the start of the bar is and will start at an interval based on the play head position rather then at the next bar. Because Cycle has know idea where the start is, it never plays at the right time.
This means that the only way cycle is usable is inside a host with Ableton link turned off. But if you want to us another app that requires Ableton link, you are out of luck.
Response from developer
I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems with cykle. other MIDI enabled apps should show up in the channel menu under output destination. you might need to reopen the menu to see all active apps. in AUM you can reset the sequencer by tapping the rewind button, cykle will then sync to the start of the bar. if your problems persist, please send me an email via the app, and I can help diagnose.
One of the best Berlin School sequencers
Having said that, I would like to request two fixes/features:
- rewinding the transport in AUM does not reset all sequencer lanes in all presets. I would expect all of them rewound to step 1, but I notice that sequences often still start where they stopped.
- please provide an option to disable cykle fitting each note received via MIDI input into one octave. This would make the plugin a great MIDI effect.
Cool app but
New favorite sequencer
pretty good start
Response from developer
thanks for your review! you can add rests with the ‘rest’ sequence. I’ll look into adding more scales. edit: the latest update (1.4) adds chromatic and pentatonic scales.
Great Sequenzer with some issues
Unfortunately, ableton link is not in sync with my DAW. And the Swing is always changing back to 0, automatically.
Response from developer
hi, the swing issue has been fixed in the latest update (1.3.3). as for the sync issue, have you tried changing the timing offset (settings > midi > timing offset)?
perfekt !
Essential midi tool!
Really good...
Mighty oaks from tiny acorns grow
The inclusion of scales means even musical klutzes like me can achieve pleasing results, and the dev has worked hard adding extra ‘lanes’ and capability to the app since it’s release.
It really is fantastic, and unlike some other sequencer apps, easy to get your head round, way easy to use, but great at creating something other than motorik rigid patterns.
The only thing that would make this perfect would be a programmable ‘song’ or clip player mode that would let you cue up a whole series of the existing ‘snapshots’ to play in sequence, randomly, or in other ways, in the style of some of the Bram Bos sequencers. Here’s hoping, but in the meantime: excellent! :)
amazing flexible yet simple sequencer
I have nearly all midisequencers on iOS but this one seems to be the only one that lets you have a seperate lane for velocity (and other parameters) that can have its own lane length.
This allows for easy evolving midi patterns.
And all this while keeping the interface simple.
