Desperately needs updated
Well. I’ve now been using CYOA for about a year. If you are simply looking to try making stories or visual novels and the like, this app is a great starter. You can import custom art assets, write any genre, and the management of stories, big or small is fairly easy to use.
My problem lies in the fact that many features have broken, or have not been fixed leaving the entire playerbase with a half finished and broken app.
1. New players are only shown how to do incredibly basic things, which are already obvious from the start, such as how to change the background, add text and choices, timers and that’s about it. There is no tutorial about tags, which are used for things like tracking players name, health, keys or any variable that needs to be accounted for in a game. We are given little information on other features, aside from the fact that they’re advanced. There are no helpful official tutorials in the tutorial tab for them either.
2. A lot of the features that seem to have had functionality, as noted by older users, have since been broken and ignored. This includes many types of tags, a whole list of beta features including battle, achievements and more, as well as any music asset importation. This is just for the features in the actual story making section.
3. Broken/missing ui. It seems this app was never properly adapted to mobile screens or something, as I am missing reply features, award features and the option to delete tags. That’s just of what I know is missing.
In short, though there are the occasional uploads, it seems the developers have left us to our devices. We haven’t had an update in a year, and loads of features promised remain broken and taking up valuable screen space. Nice for something basic, but don’t expect anything insane.

Great. Until
Love this app. Think it’d be a great tool for others. Till one day the app broke and now when reading a story there’s no text.
Please fix this

Overall, great!
I started using this app about two-ish weeks ago, so I’m still quite new to this. I’m really happy I found this though! It has basically everything that I was looking for while also working on iOS systems. You can create fairly good quality visual novels, with many different genres. There are only a few things that could make this even better.
1. I’d love it if there were more in depth tutorials. When I opened the app it gave me a VERY basic overview, but in the end I still had to look up a tutorial to get the information that I needed. It would be great if you offered tutorials on tags and their usage, battle systems, achievement's, and other complex features aside from the barebones story tools.
2. I’ve noticed that there is a limited size for projects, which means you have to be wise about how much art and sound effects you use. However, it seems that most people don’t use either as the only alternative to this is using URL’s, or they’d have to spend even more time making the art. Although I want to add sound and character sprites, I think it would be beneficial if we could test out how things work before putting in the effort of making all those sprites and whatnot ourselves. My point is, I think this app needs presets, so that everyone has the opportunity to have easily accessible resources for their stories.
3. There is a small glitch where, I would delete some of my downloaded stories, then the next time I open the app and they’re all back. I’m not sure what would cause this, but it is a little annoying. Another feature that would be nice is going to someone’s profile. When I like a game, I want to be able to see what else the creator has made!
Other than this, I haven’t had too much trouble with the app, and it has been a very pleasant experience :)

Can’t create a story
The create story is at the bottom when selecting create story and doesn’t show up on iPhone, can’t scroll down to it either. When I select multiplayer, it lets me scroll and I can see the button to create, but it still doesn’t let me create
Thank you.
This game (if it’s called that,) is confusing
yet fun. But not to confusing. 🙂
Thank you for making this. I didn’t know of the genre (if it is a genre,) CYOA. I’ve seen this style of story, but haven’t made my own like this before. Because of this though, I can. 🙂

h...
now that I've rediscovered this app i can't create stories. will rewrite if things change
Need a little assistance.
So I like that you can create your own story the way you let us🙂 good job. Thanks for making this possible.
Do you lose all progress if you uninstall this app? I reinstalled it, and it was like I was first starting. 🫤 I had set up my account last time, at least I think I changed my username, I know I picked a picture for my user, but everything is fresh.
Also, where can I ask you questions about this app? Kind of like a q&a type thing.

A question.
So I like that you can create your own story the way they let you 🙂 good job.
Here’s my question.
Is this only for your original stories? Or can you create stories that are none original too?
(E.g: a Transformers story and you put OCs in it with the Transformers.)
Thank you 🙂

We are Blind
Well, I’m blind, and, many others are too, in this app. When I try to create stories, it is kind of a little bit too hard, there’s blank spaces and we don’t know what they are, and stuff like that, just please make this app more accessible, it is a really really really cool concept. Please fix it for us blind people thank you.

A nice app
There’s the occasional bug here and there but they get fixed eventually.
Still has some bugs, but extremely useful
Pretty much the title. The big advantage this program has over others I’ve tried is its built-in visual map of your entire story and all the choices within. This alone is extremely useful for helping me keep track of everything, as well as making it obvious when I have a loose end. The actual writing process is straightforward, and rearranging scenes is easy.
For bugs, the biggest one is sometimes losing progress, but the program has an export option, which you should use regularly. Other than that, using conditional tags is a gripe since they can’t be renamed yet - this is something the developer is working on fixing.

Tags are slightly annoying.
When choosing my tags it always glitches out back to numeric when I need to use Text for the input, otherwise so far so good.
Update Destroyed Stories
Last update made months worth of stories disappear from my phone and their backup feature doesn’t even work. I have no intention of supporting something that breaks randomly and destroys stuff on your own device.
Keeps crashing when trying to use pictures
TRASHY APP
Pretty great
The layout is straightforward and it’s easy to access and edit all the scenes. I don’t have any major complaints, except for the fact that I can’t change the text color in Styles. Nothing happens when I touch the color boxes. It’s a bit disappointing, but not nearly enough to keep me from using the app.

Still can’t add photos
The review before mine said it all, this app is VERY helpful for writing CYOA stories, but I would love to be able to see the artwork I’ve created for my characters and backgrounds and unfortunately the app still just clears it out once you select an image from your device. Please fix this issue and I will give the app 5 stars. Thanks.
Edit: also I am having trouble changing colors in the font settings and using the particle effect. Would be perfect if the app actually could do all that it offers

Please Respond
When I try and create a story, it doesn’t work. I don’t know what to do. Please respond.
Improved.
I’m glad a revisited this app since the updates. Though adding pictures doesn’t seem to work I’m excited to dive into writing and publishing my own stories!
hi
Good concept, but doesn’t let me add images to characters. The field to add images is called “URL” but I’m given a button to choose a file. I choose something from my camera roll, enter the image’s width in pixels in the width field, and enter a small number of pixels in the padding field. Then I exit, and the character name is grayed out. All it saved was the character’s name. I’ve tried it connected to WiFi, connected to mobile data, connected to nothing, entering nothing in any fields but the file selection field, entering 0 for padding and the correct width, every possible combination. Also, after entering the title and description and hitting “Create Story,” you have to wait quite a while to move on to the actual story editing interface. Please help. I do appreciate the option to see “dangling choices” and “ends” when you hit the hamburger menu on the top right side when editing a scene. Maybe the tutorial should tell users about that function.
