Last update (July 2026) killed the app
The most recent update killed the app. Previously, the app worked offline. You just needed to briefly connect to the internet and it would update itself with all the latest stories which you could then read at your leisure offline.
Now, they’ve completed changed the app. Each story needs to download when you open it. It also tends to freeze up and not download even if you have a great connection.
In addition, the app now restricts what stories you see. The culture section is completely gone. The other sections show maybe 20-30% of the stories available on the Daily Beast website.
So, what’s the point of the app?? Fewer stories, loads lower than chrome or safari, requires constant internet connection. Sounds like the website but with fewer articles to read.

New update is a step backwards
Swipe to go back. Put this back in the app. It is stupid easy to do.

What is with this??
The font is enormous! Can you bring it down to half its current size? I don’t need to scroll thru 12 screens to read a small blurb. Also, why is the app sucking the life out of my phone battery? After I read 2 articles anything after that starts draining it about 1% per article.
App does not retain subscription log in
Every time I use the app I have to log out and log back in to see stories behind paywall. Please fix this!!!
7.6.26 Continued subscription issues
I continue to have subscription issues. I’ve shown my subscription. I’ve told them (Anna) told them I prefer signing in with my Apple account. I can sign in but there is a 1 one article limit. They got my money. 🦠
The new update is UNUSABLE
PROBLEM 1: Since the update, clicking on many of the headlines don’t load the article but just a white page saying unable to find article (which I can easily find the same article on the web) and there’s no way to get back to the headlines. I have to exit the app and reload.
PROBLEM 2: With just about every article, a paragraph about 2/3 of the way down loses everything after the first line. It’s as though there’s no word wrap and the text extends beyond the right margin.
PROBLEM 3: The app no longer auto-refreshes. I now have to always pull down the page to force to refresh.
All this is not even to mention the fact that the new UI tweaks are pretty meh, boring and uninspired.

New app
Lots of bugs keep having to delete and reopen. Now in limbo

For some reason, every story says “Full story unavailable check internet connection” - even though I have a solid connection and a paid subscription. Very annoying! Yes, I have the latest version of the app. It never used to do this. It seems that something in the latest update caused this.
App is currently unusable
Love the publication as a whole, but the latest app updates have made it unusable. Took away dark mode, and continuous article reading resulting in having to back out of articles multiple times just to get back to the home page. Half the stories won’t even load anymore. Full sentences of text are cut out of nearly every article and lost so the full context of most stories is missing.
This new update has completely trashed the entire app. And that’s not even counting the numerous spelling, grammar, and editing mistakes that are published in multiple articles everyday.
The editors at the Daily Beast are ruining this publication and making it look like it’s being run by a bunch of inexperienced children.
You all need to fix yourselves very quickly if you want to continue being taken seriously. Right now you’re heading into cheap tabloid territory and it’s not a good look.

barely functioning
annual subscriber for years but now the app is barely functioning. the Cheat Sheet disappeared but at least it’s back - yay! unfortunately the overall content is lacking and many articles simply won’t load at all - Full Story Unavailable. and in all this time the Beast hasn’t figured out the Save Story function would be a huge plus.

Subscription issues
I am having subscription issues. After I showed Anna my subscription review receipt and was told the process for regaining unlimited access to articles. I just hit my 'free' article limit and are required to subscribe. No response in over 3 weeks. 🦠
Poor digital execution
The Daily Beast has always had poor execution on their website and apps. I constantly feel like a beta tester. What works on one platform doesn’t work on another. Usually the iOS apps are the losers.
I had high hopes for the completely redesigned iOS app. For about 20 seconds. Right out of the gate it lacks my favorite features entirely. No quick review Cheat Sheet. NO CROSSWORD PUZZLE. Both of these are still on the web browser version.
Are they going to phase out the crossword puzzle entirely? Or just never have it in the app?
Speaking of the crossword puzzle and their bad history of making changes that break things, if you’re doing it in the web browser version, the new ad style with ads on the right messes up doing the puzzle. It breaks the feature of hitting return to go to the next word. The ad steals the focus of the mouse and you have to click in the puzzle to continue. Just a lot of stupid examples like this of their horrible digital execution and lack of testing or just plain not caring.

Where’s the Cheat Sheet?
The new app fails to include three key content section distinguishing from the rest of the media - Cheat Sheet. Why? This is my go to every day, multiple times a day. Not a fan of the redesign. Would not recommend. If it goes away altogether, I’ll drop my subscription.

So for the first time ever, I got a message that I was out of free articles?! Yeah, nah. The Cheat Sheet is gone, the articles are awful…sorry guys but you have been uninstalled.

Horrible Update
I updated the app and have had nothing but trouble. Signing to both iOS and Android was complicated. No Cheat Sheet. Font stuck on gigantic. Unhappy with the changes. Have loved the app for years. Looks like all good things come to an end
Cheat Sheet Gone?
I am a subscriber and use the app every day. Why did you remove the Cheat Sheet from the app? That makes no sense, as it is such an integral part of The Daiky Beast.
