Downhill
First they changed the format and after any article you read, it returned you to the top of the front page instead of where you left the front page.
Now, today’s change forces you to read in vertical mode. I’m on an iPad, not a phone! I should have choices, maga! Going back to web browser.

I subscribed, paid, no receipt and unable to access the site. I tried emailing, no response. I can’t access the subscription I paid for!

WORST APP UPDATE
Hate the new app update!!! Prefer the navigation, organization, and accessibility of the old app, as I find it to be way more aesthetic and user-friendly. No more crossword access via app with the new update; it is only accessible via web page. If I’m paying for a subscription, all online content should be accessible via app. What is the point of the app if a browser is required for certain material? How senseless. Do better.

Last update (July 2026) killed the app
The most recent update killed the app. Previously, the app worked offline. You just needed to briefly connect to the internet and it would update itself with all the latest stories which you could then read at your leisure offline.
Now, they’ve completed changed the app. Each story needs to download when you open it. It also tends to freeze up and not download even if you have a great connection.
In addition, the app now restricts what stories you see. The culture section is completely gone. The other sections show maybe 20-30% of the stories available on the Daily Beast website.
So, what’s the point of the app?? Fewer stories, loads lower than chrome or safari, requires constant internet connection. Sounds like the website but with fewer articles to read.
