worked well, but performance has suffered in the last few months

Sometimes takes 10+ seconds to darken sites in ios 27. This defeats the entire purpose of the app.

Amazing App but free for other browsersโ€ฆ

Title says it all. Upon installing I got immediate relief to my eyes. Nonetheless, itโ€™s a forced buy on for safari, other browsers get the extension for free. Other than that it works right away.

Stopped functioning properly.

Stopped working with iOS 26.6.0.

It worked flawlessly until this latest iOS version and now it takes 10-20 seconds for darkreader to apply its theme?

This is on a iPhone 17 where it worked instantly prior to this specific update of iOS.

FAQ

What does Dark Reader for Safari do?

Dark Reader is a Safari extension that applies dark themes to all websites, making them easier to read and reducing eye strain. It achieves this by inverting bright colors and offering high contrast options. The extension is designed to be eye-friendly, especially for users sensitive to bright light.

How can I customize the dark mode settings?

You can adjust the brightness and contrast of websites to match your display and ambient lighting. The app also provides multiple color theme presets, and you can create your own by customizing background and text colors. This allows for a personalized dark browsing experience.

Is Dark Reader for Safari free to use?

No, Dark Reader for Safari is a paid application. A single purchase grants access to the macOS version when using the same iCloud account. The app does not contain ads and does not collect user data.

Can I use Dark Reader on specific websites only?

Yes, you can enable or disable Dark Reader for specific websites. This feature allows you to control which sites get the dark mode treatment. It can also automatically sync with your system's dark mode settings or detect websites that are already dark and leave them unchanged.

What are the benefits of using a dark mode extension?

Using a dark mode extension like Dark Reader can significantly reduce eye strain, especially during prolonged browsing sessions or in low-light environments. It can also help conserve battery life on some devices and improve readability by providing a high-contrast viewing experience.
