Great game!

Challenging to the brain, no doubt. Made it through 1-10, but 11 has me stumped! So far though, very impressive 👌🏻

Puzzles are good and challenging but the lake of directions can cause it to feel unfair. The average person is not going to know Morse code without a legend and making it only available if keys are spend is the reason I’m uninstalling.

Response from developer

Thank you for the feedback. I didn’t want to add the Morse table as the first hint, since the first hint is usually meant to put you on track without instantly revealing the answer, especially as you move further into the game. In the first Morse level, that would be the case. On the other hand, I understand how annoying it can be to open a wiki page just to find a Morse table. Given this situation, I think it probably makes sense to add the table as the first hint and move the Morse level toward the easier levels. I’ll add this to the backlog for the next update.

High quality, fun app to keep you alert and on your toes

Level 15

I love the game and concept but currently i have been stuck on level 15 and everywhere i search i don’t get the answer so if possible please tell me what cipher to use or the answer. 100% recommend to people

Response from developer

Hey, thank you for your review! 🖤 If you can, please email me using the contact button in the game, and I’ll be happy to guide you in the right direction to solve Level 15

Does work correctly

This game has so much potential. But several levels are impossible, even after you’ve paid for a bunch of keys to get all the clues. Not sure how many phones they tested this on, but the iPhone isn’t doing what they think it’s doing to help you follow the clues and figure it out.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. I’m sorry to hear about your experience. If you don’t mind, I’d really appreciate more details about what caused the issues, especially on iPhone. The game is exclusive to iOS, and I personally tested it to ensure the best possible experience, so this information would be very helpful. If you’re open to it, please contact me by email so we can discuss the issue in more detail. Also, if you’re still interested in completing the level you’re stuck on, I’d be happy to help point you in the right direction.

Fun! But hard

I’ve been having fun with this game so far. The only problem is the puzzles seem more random and with different rules than how I’ve used the ciphers before, and the hints aren’t really all that helpful at times. I’m currently stuck on 19, have been for a while now.

Response from developer

Hey, thank you for your review! If you can, please email me using the contact button in the game and I’ll be happy to help guide you in the right direction for solving Level 19. Also, if you have a moment, I’d be interested in hearing what felt random.

We need more stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love this game. I don’t know how they balanced the difficulty but it’s perfect. Not too easy and not too hard, yet. If I’ve been stuck it’s because I am making it harder than it needs to be. Just change perspective and BANG! Its solved. Dopamine factory in my pocket. I look forward to more games from this creator. Maybe one for “kids” that teaches them about codes and ciphers

Thank you so much! I was literally lying in bed with very low energy when I read your review, and it gave me such a boost that I jumped up to keep working on levels for the upcoming game 🖤

Really good until puzzle 19

The difficulty spike at puzzle 19 is as large as the size difference between an ant and an elephant.

The hints for puzzle 19 are also either A: stating the obvious or B: tauntingly vague and providing no help to what kind of cipher the puzzle even is.

Even while writing this, I’ve spent at least 3 months toiling over this puzzle, because it just doesn’t make any sense whatsoever and I can’t access any more hints or online guides.

I’m sure the rest of the game could be great — I’m just never going to be able to experience it because of this puzzle.

Hey 👋 If you want help with that level, just email me and we can go over it. I get that it’s frustrating, but I also want the game to stay challenging for people who are really into ciphers. I wish to add more learning material in the future, but for now the difficulty is meant to ramp up, with the hardest puzzles saved for the end. That said, I’m always willing to help if someone reaches out.

Very cool and fun! I can’t stop playing

Am at 14th level

Game is cool, you know what to expect, but the level is hard, because on iPad it doesn’t let me edit the picture like I needed to. So I got hung up on the file name. Apparently it is an cipg png (or smth like that) and so some editing software, doesn’t let me edit it in photo kinda ways or just throws errors or doesn’t let me add it to it TO edit it fittingly.

Response from developer

Hey, thanks for the kind words! All levels are fully completable on iPad. You don’t need any additional software. Just save the image to the Files app, then move it to the iPad Photos app to edit it there. Feel free to email me if you need help with that. The reason the image doesn’t save directly to Photos is for your privacy. I chose not to request photo permissions, because some people don't like giving that and doing it via Files app avoids needing that access.

Fantastic game

Well developed with intriguing ciphers and I learned about some of them while playing. Congrats and I hope to try my hand at some new levels soon!

Morse code levels

Morse code levels feel like a they are impossible if you are hard of hearing and trying to use headphones

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback! After some testing, I was able to reproduce the issue with Bluetooth headphones. I’ve rewritten the Morse engine using lower-level audio APIs, and it appears to be working correctly now. Could you please update to the latest version and give it a try? If the issue still persists, feel free to email me. I’ll be happy to look into it further. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Outright unfair

In my line of work, ciphers and decryption are a main place in my job, and I have to admit, there are some levels in this game are downright not well balanced. I am going to cite level 20, since after completing that level, is when I decided to make this review. It uses a grille cipher; nothing too extraordinary. What makes it extraordinary though is how the orientation, starting position, and order you follow is completely and underly random with not a single clue. It’s possible, but it’s not fun. And that’s just one level. I wouldn’t recommend playing this unless you really know what you are doing.

Response from developer

I’m sorry to hear about the frustration. Level 20 uses a cipher with a consistent, non-random solution path. If you’d like, feel free to reach out via the support email. I’d be happy to provide a visual, step-by-step breakdown. The later levels are designed to be more challenging, but fairness is always a core consideration. I appreciate you playing and sharing your thoughts.

Good puzzles

Fixed. Thanks for the tip!

Response from developer

Hey, thanks for the kind words! There is indeed an option to change the input in the settings: just toggle the “Interactive Input” option, and you’ll be able to enter text manually.

This is incredibe!

Came across this game accidentally while looking for something else and I’m so glad I did. It’s so neat and fun, this game lead me to subscribe to your RSS news feed and I’m going through it religiously. Thanks for creating this gem.

Response from developer

Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to share this with me 🖤

XD

Some levels aren’t set out to work with the relevant cypher they’re based on and so don’t work all together

Response from developer

Hi! Could you please email me which levels you had issues with? Several players have already completed the game without any problems, and all new levels are usually internally beta tested before being released. Thank you!

I’m in love with this game!

I happened to come across this app by chance. I had been searching for a game like this for years. The excitement and the rush from getting closer to the answer is unparalleled! It’s definitely an app I’d recommend to all my friends. Keep up the good work and thank you for creating this game. Cheers!

Interesting if a little user-unfriendly

Hard to criticise it for this, because as a puzzle game it’s meant to challenge, but the UI isn’t clear or hinted at at all so, for example, at first I thought the app was totally unresponsive because the interactive input operates like dials but there’s nothing to indicate this. A later level’s hint tells you to zoom in to analyse text but nowhere does it tell you that you have to tap on something to get the text - elsewhere, tapping does nothing. As I say, this is part of what makes it interesting but it treads a fine line between ‘oh, I should have tried that’ and ‘how was I supposed to know that would be a thing?’. In terms of more concrete annoyances, the fact the scrolling letters are at the bottom of the screen means my iPhone constantly tries to open pull-down menus when I scroll down through the letters; it needs moving. Overall an intriguing game but yeah, think outside the box!

First of all, a big thank you for taking the time to articulate and provide your feedback! I will start replying from the end in case other people stumble on this one 😄 If you drag the letter by holding it (without releasing at bottom), it will not trigger the reachability gesture. Another option is to disable interactive input from the game settings. I totally understand that this is not really an answer if some users prefer to interact with the app differently, and it is up to me to figure out how to make it work. In fact, I tried working around it in many different ways, but there is no official API to disable (only the user can disable this gesture in settings) or prevent the reachability gesture. I actually spent days on this trying various hacks. The only solution I was left with was to increase the bottom padding (which I did multiple times). Given that you still had issues, I might have to increase it even further, but there is a limit to how far I can go because 1) some levels might have more vertical content and 2) I want to keep a certain game aesthetic. All that being said, I understand your frustration and just wanted to share a bit from my side so it does not seem like I do not care about it. Regarding the UI, I understand what you are saying, and I am on the fence myself. The goal of this big 10-year anniversary update was to focus on the “feeling”. I have a full blog post on this, but here is an excerpt from the “feeling” part: “The first thing I wanted to create was mystery. No onboarding, no tutorials, no menus. You enter the game, and you see symbols that instantly spark your curiosity.” I beta tested with players and it seemed that majority of them started dragging symbols (that was one of the reasons why the first level is the way it is). I understand how this can seem broken or frustrating, but at the same time there is something very special about figuring something out without any dialogs, tutorials, or popups. However, as you said, there is a fine line between that feeling and frustration. For the future, I have some ideas on how to hint without being like a tutorial (for example, letters could start rotating if you have not interacted with them for some time), but I am still trying to understand user sentiment and how players interact with the game. While I will not make any instant changes (apart from playing more with the bottom padding in the next updates), I want to let you know that your feedback is definitely becoming part of the bigger picture of how I see the game. So thank you for that 🖤
