Read Chinese every day.
Whether you know a handful of words or you're preparing for your next HSK exam, reading is how Chinese starts to stick. Dengdeng gives you a story you can follow today, and one that asks a little more tomorrow.
Every day, Dengdeng publishes short stories about what's happening in China and what people there are talking about. Pick Easy, Medium, or Hard, tap the words you don't know yet, and keep them as you go.
READ STORIES AT YOUR LEVEL
Every story comes in three reading levels: Easy, Medium, and Hard. As a rough HSK 3.0 guide, Easy covers levels 1–3, Medium 3–4, and Hard 5–6. Easy stories are written for early learners, so you can start reading sooner than you think. Switch levels at any time.
TAP TO UNDERSTAND
Tap any word without leaving the page for pinyin and meaning. Hear it aloud, see example sentences and related words, or ask about a sentence in context. No copying, switching apps, or losing your place.
FLASHCARDS THAT KNOW WHEN TO COME BACK
The words you tap become your vocabulary, and Dengdeng schedules each one for review. A modern spaced-repetition algorithm (FSRS) brings a word back just before you would forget it, so you spend time on the words that need it and skip the ones you already know.
Every review shows the word inside a sentence. Switch between three ways to practice:
- Flashcards: see the word, recall the reading and meaning
- Multiple choice: pick the right word from four options
- Build a sentence: put the words back in order
There is no deck to build or cards to make. The stories you read fill your review queue for you.
HSK 3.0 DECKS
Want a ready-made study path? Add any HSK 3.0 vocabulary deck, from HSK 1 through 7–9, to the same review queue. New deck words arrive a few at a time, mixed with the words you tapped while reading, so you build a clear foundation that becomes your own as you go.
PUZZLES AND WORD GAMES
A new Chinese Connections puzzle and a mini crossword every day. Between them, quick games built from your own vocabulary: catch words by their pinyin in Drift, match words and meanings in Pairs, spot pinyin and meaning in Pop, and name tones against the clock in Tones. For a break from words, try two classic Chinese puzzles, Seven Pieces and Huarong Pass. Puzzles are free and stay separate from your scheduled review.
Dengdeng is for anyone learning Chinese who wants to read more and understand more, from your first few hundred words to native articles. It is a calm, focused place to spend time with Chinese every day.
