Mac’s Most Powerful and Fascinating APP!
DEVONthink is an app that can organize all the information you care about. It is a database of your documents (text, rich text, PDF, images, and many more types). You can use the hierachical groups and sub-groups, but is has aliases (duplicates) and copies (replicates) of documents, incredible search methods, favorites, reading lists, and much, more. I have been using it for 2 years, learned some of the features, and find it as one of my main app. It encompasses of the features of Notes, for example. AWESOME!

This app is most underrated app in ios and mac.
Really hope this version continues.
Sync is fantastic on 3.8.13
I have used DevonThink To Go on my mobile devices, together with DevonThink Pro Office on two different Macs, for several years now. I have thousands of PDFs in a handful of databases. Synchronization of databases across various platforms has always worked but sometimes required a bit of babysitting or coaxing. With the latest versions, on latest iOS/macOS, the need for that is gone. Synchronization of incremental changes happens when I need it without further action, and is nearly instant.

Good app Lazy Dev
What does it say about the app when they don’t even bother to update the icon for iOS 26 or implement and features like shortcuts for the lock screen or Siri short cuts. Seems like somebody worked really hard on this app and then completely dropped it.

Devonthink is the best document management tool out there.

It’s great but maybe two suggestions
1. The Markdown export to pdf feature only allow one page. This is difficult to share to others for viewing. Would be better if it supports exporting pdf of multiple pages.
2. Please support Liquid Glass. If difficult please make the icon adapt for Liquid Glass at least. It’s too outstanding now, feels like an app without maintenance

Ablage für alles, scheint e2ee zu sein, nachdem anfänglich der iCloud-Sync nicht zuverlässig funktionierte, habe ich dieses auf WebDAV MagentaCloud umgestellt, welches im Grunde genommen hervorragend funktioniert, Danke für diese extrem gute App!

Excellent! The mobile version has really improved over the years, sync works well, and it’s really handy to have access on the phone.
My main challenge with this app is the text editor. The text is so small, and the experience of editing documents is just not enjoyable. It’s possible to open things up in an external editor but that is clunky and inconvenient. Really wish this basic functionality would improve!

I don’t want to use my ipad storage; I want to use icloud
I have thousands of documents in evernote and apple notes. I wanted to change to devonthink. I bought a years subscription. After using devonthink for a short while, I realized that devonthink is storing the files on my ipad. I don’t want to waste my on-device storage.
The best
I use DEVONthink for all my scientific journal articles, books and classroom notes. In my class alone, I have over 1000 articles, powerpoint presentations, PDF monograms, and notes. It is the absolute best to help organize all my materials. I use it to organize meeting notes for my businesses. It is used all the time and is the best application to keep me organized and so easy to view the documents. Thank you to the Devonthink Team. Great job!!!

Last Update is a problem
Love this product but it seems like with the most recent update I’m unable to import markdown files using the native share function on my iPhone 16. I have used this capability frequently and this is a real problem for me.

DEVONthink is first rate document and knowledge management tool. Here are some insights from my experience that will hopefully save you some time and energy:
DEVONthink is an acquired taste, but it also ages like a fine wine. There is a learning curve, and part of this (in addition to understanding the features and functions) is figuring out how to best structure your data within its architecture. This will take time. Along with that is also determining what data needs to be in it and what data should reside elsewhere.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the Mac and iOS apps do not have feature parity. If that is a requirement, this is not the tool for you. There is a lot of overlap between the two, but they are different apps. I chose to keep my notes in Obsidian for this reason, as I really needed feature parity across devices for my notes (among other reasons), though DEVONthink’s markdown support is quite good.
I also highly recommend the MacSparky Field Guide. This helped me build a lot more fluency and trust with the DEVONthink ecosystem.

Room for improvement
Was looking for an app separate from Apple Photos that can be used to collate, sort, and search screenshots.
Currently, lacks the ability to search text within screenshots like Photos can do natively.
Also search only seems accessible from the top folder.
Would be great to have the search capability be accessible across the whole app, to find stuff in cluttered folders like the global inbox, or have live filtering per folder, like the native files app. Until then, I can’t quantify the subscription.

My number one app for over a decade
I absolutely love this app. Unlike other similar products it doesn't lock you in but does provide an incredibly experience. I'm looking forward to trying out the new 4.0 for iOS.
Powerful and versatile CMS with some UX frustrations
I use this app daily as a companion to the macOS version. Both are versatile content management tools that allow me to capture, organize, and synthesize material across my projects' technical and business domains.
Devon has spent much time thinking, designing, and building the user interface. On iOS, however, I wish Devon paid more attention to some basic UI design constraints, especially in list views, which are the backbone of information presentation and navigation.
For an app built around managing documents and their metadata, it pays little attention to handling long document names, which it simply truncates. It does not provide openly visual indicators of the sort order or useful information like tags.
Back buttons on navigation views tend to reduce to a single < icon whose small hit area is frustratingly difficult or noticeable.
Drill-down by tags has a surprisingly weak user experience, reusing the standard list view in the app. However, this capability should be able to see and fluidly gather documents across the system into ephemeral or permanent user-defined sets.
The sync services are numerous and reliable, yet the user experience is slow and clunky. On mobile, it is critical to have a clear, openly visible statement about the number of documents awaiting synchronization in either direction.
In other words, the current user experience could use more polishing. And IMHO, it doesn’t go far enough to facilitate fluid document management at the “meta “ level. The result is a very traditional top-down hierarchical experience that doesn’t unlock the power of Devon’s architecture and vision.

Steep Learning Curve
Powerful App but how to set it up so that it sync’s across your devices I find to be extremely difficult. It’s not like the Drafts app where you install it and it just works. Right now in the pain part of learning a new app. The price you have to pay when learning an app as powerful as this one. It would be great if the install process would ask you a few questions and set up a set of databases for you to use while getting started.
Syncing is slow.
Can’t trust that the database does not get corrupted.
