EasyReader does not remember reading position

The app has big problems keeping track of where I have listened to, numerous times I have to find where I am up to as the booking lock has not been remembered. This is especially prevalent when I've got more than one book on the go. This is fundamental to a book reading app. I would love to have the chance to use a different app but obviously I'm fixed to this one. Sometimes it opens and just reads loading…, This is when you know you've lost all your bookmarks and all your reading library selections. The other criminal problem is that the feedback button produces five smiley to less smiley faces when you slag one the app crashes, for God sake. There are another issues where the book won't stop playing when you press pause and when you can try and control using Siri shortcuts the book does the opposite to what it is commanded to do. I've also got auto start read selected even though the setting does not exist anymore, it did once so I can't turn it off now. a shambles.

Best option for reading Bookshare books as a Blind person

I started using this app when my VoiceDream appr which I was using for my BookShare books kept crashing. Using this app I easily accessed my bookshare account and books. I’m talking about the free version. I don’t do anything else with the app but I really only have this one purpose. I know it can do a lot more, and I really appreciate that even for free I have full access to my books, that it’s not truncated in any way. I also found it easier to navigate than BookShare’s own app. So, for Blind users, I highly recommend getting this app, even if it’s just to use as backup. It’s really nice to have a basic tool that really works that the developers have made available for free, for which I am very grateful.

Well, it’s free so what do I expect?

For years now I’ve had issues with this app. First of alll, books it claims are downloaded are not. Then, you pick a book and guess what? ‘Download failed, please try again llater’. What, again? Then, when I close the app the book, if it opens at all once the app is reopened is a different book from the one I was reading. It used to be at the top of the page but now the book in progress could be just about anywhere in my reading list. Frankly, it’s pathetic but It’s free I suppose. Having said that, thank goodness I don’t have to pay for it, it wouldn’t be worth the money.

EasyReader provides access to content made available by partner libraries, but we do not manage or control the titles in their collections. If there's a specific book you'd like to see added, such as La Bête humaine, we recommend contacting AVH Éole directly to request it. Library feedback helps them understand which titles their readers are looking for. Thank you for using EasyReader!

Useful but several issues for VI

No dark mode, can’t Bluetooth to Alexa, no ‘End of chapter’ option on sleep timer. RNIB book cover often disappears. I have my phone on high brightens as vision impaired, so when the book cover disappears and lack of a dark mode option it’s blinding. Still, saves money on Audible.

Brilliant but flawed

I am partially blind and listen to books a lot, sadly they done allow 0.95 or .09 for slower reading or slightly faster . You can’t customise for longer the sleeper for longer than an hour . It does the basics but it’s a shame they don’t consider these options as standard for veterans

works but needs improvement

the tts voice for daisytext/ence-books sucks, its robotic and specially by today's hyperhuman sounding voices with AI. reading with voiceover doesn't work well because of the app's navigation system with e-books. other than that, audiobooks and all work well, but every screen no matter whether it feeds from a source like bookshare or not, takes time to load like an app from the 2000s.

I hate the new interface.

I hate the new interface. It's so large that the sleep timer is almost off my phone screen. The old one was much better - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Son güncellemeyle birlikte, uygulamanın arayüzü iyice kalabalık olmuş. Her şeyden önce kitabın ne kadar kaldığını gösteren bir zaman göstergesi eklemişsiniz. Bu biz görme engelliler daha çok zor durumda bırakıyor. Böyle bir düğmeye gerek yok. Kitabın ne kadar kaldığını zaten sol taraftaki göstergelerden görebiliyoruz. Yer imi ekleme düğmesini bir sonraki düğmesinin hemen sağına eklenmesi benim işimi zorlaştırıyor. Sözlüğe bakmak ya da yapay zekaya kitapla ilgili soru sormak için uygulamadan çıktığımda tekrar uygulamaya girersem, oynat veya duraklat düğmesini bulurken sürekli karşıma çıkıyor ve bana zaman kaybettiriyor. Yer imi ekleme düğmesinin eski yerinde olmasını talep ediyorum.
Arayüzünün kalabalık olmaması için basit gezinmeyi açık hale getirme düğmesi koymuşsunuz. Ancak kitapta gezinme düğmesinin yerini değiştirerek ta en başa koymuşsunuz. Bu da bir görme engelli kullanıcı olarak bana aşırı derecede zaman kaybettiriyor. İşimi zorlaştırıyor. Kitapta gezinme düğmesi bu ayarı kullanan görme engelli kullanıcılara zaman kazandırmak için, tıpkı eskiden olduğu gibi, önceki düğmesini hemen soluna eklenmeli. Uygulamada iyileştirmek amacıyla güncellemeler yapılmalı fakat bu güncellemeler uygulamayı daha kötü hale getirmemeli. Uygulamanın sade ve kullanışlı hali korunmalı. Biz görme engelliler için bu uygulama, hem kütüphanelere direkt bağlanma imkanı sağladığı hem de ücretsiz ve kolay bir uygulama olduğu için çok önemli. Biz bu uygulamayı sadeliği ve kolay kullanımı için seviyoruz. Ancak sizin yanlış eklemeleriniz yüzünden Voice drim reader’a kayıyoruz. Ben de bu uygulama yeterince kullanıcı dostu olmadığı için diğer uygulamaya geçmeyi düşünüyorum. Lütfen uygulamayı tekrar eski erişilebilir ve rahat arayüzüne çevirin. Bu arada hata bildirimi imkanı sağlayarak uygulamaya doğrudan sorun bildirimi yapmamızı kolaylaştırdığınız için çok teşekkür ederim. Bu özellik güzel olmuş. Lütfen kullanıcılarının fikirlerini dikkate alın.

Not Easy!

We encourage young people with a vision impairment and their schools to use RNIB Bookshare and the EasyReader app but there is always an issue with downloading a book, and/or using other features in the app.
Please Dolphin and RNIB Bookshare make it easier for our SEN users to be able to access independently either on the app or on the website. It’s been too long for these ongoing issues to continue ….

il y a plusieurs semaines que j'ai été déconnecté de mon compte et en essayant de m'y reconnecter j'observe que seule quatre livres audio sont toujours téléchargées dans la rubrique mes ouvrages. Les dizaines d'autres accumulée avec le temps ont disparu, je ne trouve aucun emplacement sur mon téléphone où il serait rangé et la reconnection à la bibliothèque Eole sur laquelle je récupérais les livres n'y change rien.
Je voudrais des explications.

Good, also could be a bit more accessible

Happy to have this app so I can access books through CELA. It would be more accessible if there was a playback speed option between 75 and 100. I’m sure i’m not the only user who has ADHD with an audio processing delay. Too fast and I can’t comprehend, too slow and I can’t pay attention. Increments of 5 would be ideal.

Accent options would be great too for holding attention. Slowed Irish and South African are less monotone.

It would also be awesome if there was an option to turn off reading page numbers as they can be really disruptive.

Great that i can adjust the screen and text colours and the font tho.

Some of these limitations are due to the DAISY audio book format supplied by the library, where other libraries supply EPUB/DAISY 2 text/audio books so that EasyReader can optionally use TTS audio containing all the suggestions you have made including reading speed increments of 5%, customisations to pitch/volume/pause length, choosing between 60+ additional voices with differing accents, while being able to customise whether page number, footnotes, producer notes, and sidebar content are read or skipped. To test the functionality of these features, please download compatible content from a library such as Project Gutenberg (no sign-in required) and select the 'Speaker icon' to begin making all of the above adjustments, among many others. Alternatively, you may also contact us at inapp@yourdolphin.com if you believe the content you are using should be able to benefit from the above customisations!
