User reviews

Love the update.

Have had and used this utility for years. Fantastically useful and easy to use without being overly time consuming.

Nice idea but fail in practical application.

It’s true as the other said, special character does create troubles.
Some websites ruled its password policy that it must contains all sort of special characters while some other websites prohibit some particular special characters to be in the password combination. This leads to the inconsistency of application.

Response from developer

Yes, this is indeed an issue. Many sites require passwords to contain some special characters to make them more secure, and most at least allow them. So the passwords generated contain a set of commonly used such characters (like $!& etc) to make the passwords useful in the majority of cases. But a minority of sites (often with older less secure systems) don't allow specific special characters, meaning you can't use the dotpass generated passwords for them. EDIT: With the 1.5.5 update there's now a way to copy the generated passwords without any special characters, which should be helpful in situations like these where the site has restrictions on allowed characters.

How does it work

This app didn’t work for me. There’s no instructions or technical support

5 🤩⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good work

OBSOLETE APP!!!!

Update 10/22/20: developer contacted me asking what special characters are giving me a problem. Each site is different in what they reject: $,&,*,! and ? Have all been rejected by various sites. Please create a toggle to remove special characters from password generation. AT&T and Xfinity are two major sites that reject characters.

This App has become OBSOLETE!!! DO NOT DOWNLOAD OR PURCHASE!!! It generates passwords with special characters rejected by the majority of apps and websites making it useless. WHAT A WASTE.

Response from developer

What special characters is it you're having problems with? The passwords generated by DotPass are exactly the same as always and we've not heard any other complaints about invalid special characters since the original release in 2014. You can read more about the special characters used and other technical details regarding the passwords and generation at lostminds.com/dotpass/security.php EDIT: With the 1.5.5 update there's now a way to copy the generated passwords without any special characters, which should be helpful in situations like these where the site has restrictions on allowed characters.
