DotPass Passwords User Reviews

Love the update.

Have had and used this utility for years. Fantastically useful and easy to use without being overly time consuming.

Nice idea but fail in practical application.

It’s true as the other said, special character does create troubles.
Some websites ruled its password policy that it must contains all sort of special characters while some other websites prohibit some particular special characters to be in the password combination. This leads to the inconsistency of application.

Yes, this is indeed an issue. Many sites require passwords to contain some special characters to make them more secure, and most at least allow them. So the passwords generated contain a set of commonly used such characters (like $!& etc) to make the passwords useful in the majority of cases. But a minority of sites (often with older less secure systems) don't allow specific special characters, meaning you can't use the dotpass generated passwords for them. EDIT: With the 1.5.5 update there's now a way to copy the generated passwords without any special characters, which should be helpful in situations like these where the site has restrictions on allowed characters.

How does it work

This app didn’t work for me. There’s no instructions or technical support

5 🤩⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good work

OBSOLETE APP!!!!

Update 10/22/20: developer contacted me asking what special characters are giving me a problem. Each site is different in what they reject: $,&,*,! and ? Have all been rejected by various sites. Please create a toggle to remove special characters from password generation. AT&T and Xfinity are two major sites that reject characters.

This App has become OBSOLETE!!! DO NOT DOWNLOAD OR PURCHASE!!! It generates passwords with special characters rejected by the majority of apps and websites making it useless. WHAT A WASTE.

What special characters is it you're having problems with? The passwords generated by DotPass are exactly the same as always and we've not heard any other complaints about invalid special characters since the original release in 2014. You can read more about the special characters used and other technical details regarding the passwords and generation at lostminds.com/dotpass/security.php EDIT: With the 1.5.5 update there's now a way to copy the generated passwords without any special characters, which should be helpful in situations like these where the site has restrictions on allowed characters.

Does as described

Perfect
If you’re having a problem, you’re doing something wrong.
Highly recommended

Not bad

Unfortunately, missing special characters in passwords, 3-stars

Response from developer

It's true that some passwords (especially if you use 9 characters passwords and not 18) will not contain special characters, but most will. This is because there are quite few special characters when compared to numbers and letters, so if there was a rule that one character has to be a special character this would make the password much easier to guess and less safe.

Great idea

BUT,no special characters

Perfect app but?!!

Very cool application but needs to set a password to him

Thanks

Nice App

I wanted a simple app that would generate unique passwords to sites and apps without having to store them. Using the same design and word on any device creates the same code. You have access to your codes even if using it on a friend's device (providing they have the app)

What's still missing

Needs a password or Touch ID to open the app. I don't want anyone trying out pattern and keyword combos. Needs an option to store keywords so that I don't have to type them in all the time. Needs an option to generate longer passwords. Nine is pretty good but on certain accounts I would like longer. Also this last update says you can tap on dots to edit. That doesn't appear to work.

Hello, thanks for your feedback. I haven't added a password or touch-id since there's nothing to protect in the app by design. This is also why I don't want to save the seedwords you've used, as this would be something that could be stolen or lost and require protection. But you'll be happy to know that you can now have 18 character passwords as well. And you can edit the patterns, just tap the lines between the dots to remove, not the dots.

Great

Good update. Solid functionality. Only suggestion would be a larger UI on iPad.
