Inaccurate

This app and the system they have is very annoying. It records my journeys on my bike and occasionally when I go for a run and if I don’t go on in 72 hours and say it wasn’t a drive I get marked down. The same issue when someone else drives (not juts my car but any vehicle/bus) and if I don’t remember to go on the app every time I get marked down. The system seems a little bit broken after using other systems like a black box in the past to monitor my driving.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. The app will automatically record in the background, and we understand how frustrating it can be. When you're not driving, you can pause the app so it won't record journeys. If you have any more queries, not hesitate to contact us at support@churchill.com, and we'll do our best to help. Lisa

Driving score

After having this insurance provider for around a month my driving score has been maintained above 80 although I’ve had a few harsh breaks and acceleration the app only marked them and didn’t clock my score. This app does clock you for using hands free on your steering wheel which is a bit annoying but other than that there isn’t anything else wrong. Other reviews are slightly over the top. I’ve done late night drives where my score hasn’t been great but it hasn’t affected my overall score. UPDATE: After a year of being with drive sure I cannot fault them if you think this insurance company is scoring badly for no reason I’d like to see you all drive with a black box😂. It’s telematics data and although my road risk scores weren’t great I still had an amazing renewal price which is why I’ve gone for them a 2nd year running. Like I said last year. your all being over the top it’s not actually that bad compared to what other insurance providers are offering especially for new drivers.

Unfair and inaccurate

I always get harshly marked down for ‘Road Risk’, which I find extremely unfair as that is just the area I live in and I can’t help that. I always drive below the speed limit and never have any sudden breaks yet I get harshly marked down on ‘smooth driving’. I even get marked down for ‘time of day’ for when I drive past 17:00 which is ridiculous because that’s when most people finish work. I get told by the app to drive alternative routes to go on safer roads when a lot of the time the roads I drive on are 20mph!!!!!!!! And it would be a massive inconvenience to take an extra long route and probably more dangerous if anything because I would be on the road for longer and on an unfamiliar route! Also I get marked down for listening to music in the car which I find so so stupid because if anything music is probably safer that listening to radio and you’d get more distracted trying to listen to people talk about politics or something. Terrible app, I hate it so much and so does everyone else by the looks of the reviews.

Also I forgot to mention how when i come home after a drive, it keeps recording that i’m driving for another 5 minutes and then marks me down for being on my phone.
It also marks me down for using a GPS on my phone too whilst driving which is stupid because it’s more unsafe if i don’t know where i’m driving and just guessing.

This app is OKAY…

It seems extremely strict on some categories, particularly the smooth driving. That just shoots up and down, and is particularly frustrating when you GENUINELY have to brake hard, and it assumes that’s you just coming to a stop and braking far too harshly.

Also, the fact that journeys automatically register as if you were driving if you don’t do it manually within three days is pretty irritating. I understand there may be no other way to resolve this other than make all journeys require you to register them all yourself, which could be a hassle, but I take the train to university and if I forget to open the app, it reckons I was driving and thus my score (again, particularly smooth driving) zips down into the red zone.

Mine typically sticks to the bottom/middle of the green, say 80, 85, but if I don’t use the app for a few days (during which I take the train, get lifts from other people, etc) all my scores shoot down and then I have to consciously drive very robotically and also ensure that I consciously open the app and register the journey after every single drive, regardless of its distance or length.

Poor

Received a letter saying I had not downloaded this app and insurance is due to be cancelled. I’ve downloaded the app and it is tracking my driving. Unable to speak with anyone from drive sure over the weekend. Reports I’m using my phone when playing music through Bluetooth in the car and the phone is not in use. Also really slow and often unable to confirm I’m driving for a while. Emailed Churchill and hoping the issues in the letter will be rectified.

Again received a message to say insurance is going to be cancelled, logged into Churchill to find a message stating I haven’t downloaded the DriveSure app. Unable to get any help with this over the weekend. The app is working and logging my driving yet getting a message to say my insurance policy is going to be cancelled. Not worth the stress having this, will not be renewing my policy with Churchill.

Terrible and Controlling app

Shocking app, based on factors that are out of my control and are extremely in accurate. Most of the time states that I have harsh acceleration and braking but doesn’t even state when and where this occurs as I don’t do neither of them! I’ve moved to this company from another blackbox company and haven’t changed my driving which I was getting excellent scores for the same categories. I go down 10 points for risky area just from leaving my house and can’t avoid that no matter what. The time of day factor is ridiculous really especially when you have no choice over the times you need to do things. If I had of read all of the 1 star reviews I would not of gone with this insurance company!

It’s decent

Despite the many negative reviews, I have found very little problems using the app, I’ve done 40 miles since using it and got a score of 85 overall. I do think the harsh acceleration and the harsh braking score, is a little exaggerated however. It is also quite sensitive to the fact when you have finished your trip, it thinks you are using your phone a little bit, but you just press stop and it’s usually ok.

I’m not quite sure how people are getting ridiculously low scores, I’ve had no problems at all, for a telematics app, this is pretty good.

Not great

Can’t drive anywhere without being marked down, get red for road risk if I’m driving from my house to the shops or anywhere in my town, which is obviously unavoidable as that’s where I live, also none of the roads in my town are lanes and also haven’t had many crashes at all, get marked red for ‘mobile phone usage’ if my phone rings and I answer even tho my phone is connected to the car via Bluetooth and I use the hands free to answer it, get marked red for smooth driving even if ur braking normally, red for time of day when I’m driving to and from college also unavoidable. All the reviews seem to be saying the same too, says all you need to know about the app. Paying 2.3k a year for the insurance just for the app not to allow me to drive anywhere without being punished.

Awful and inaccurate.

The app is so inaccurate, App scores me on time of day? I finish work at 15:00 every week day i cant change that and gives me “Red coloured” which is bad Score for it which also is the main cause off putting the overall score down and down all the time. “Road risk” scores me on the roads i drive on near where i am living, what am i supposed to do not drive at all? Speed, tells me im speeding when i most definitely am not, speed is always just under and never over. “Smooth driving” Harsh acceleration or braking, this is one of the most inaccurate ones ive seen, i practiced driving round my area on braking very early so its progressive rather than harsh and also practiced little acceleration so that wasnt heavy either, but yet got home only to be scored on harsh braking and acceleration, and it doesnt tell you wether its one or the other too, theres not much information at all to anything, would not recommend to anyone, almost feels like a rip off.

Bad app

Firstly, I think it’s highly unfair to rate someone on the time of day they drive, I can’t help what time I work to and from and I can’t change it to suit the times that you think are most safe to drive, this significantly affects my score and I don’t think it’s fair at all. Secondly, I don’t understand the speed part and why I’m being measured against other drivers, surely it should be if I stayed within the speed limit? If I’m driving behind someone or am not catching up to someone in front of me, surely I’m not driving faster than others on the road, although the app constantly says I am, despite the fact that I am staying within the speed limit and going 60mph on the motorway, apparently I am driving faster than others?? It doesn’t make sense. I also hate the 72 hours part, I think it should be up to 5 days. If I’m having a busy/stressful week the last thing I think about is going onto this app and saying that I was driving. I forgot to do it for 4 days and now I have 2 journeys on there where I was a passenger on a bus and my score has been affected, my score is around 20 on both of these, with there being only a score of 1 on one of the measures, even though I wasn’t driving, so now my score has been affected again. Also why is there no option of being on a bus? But there’s a option for a plane ?? Lastly, I very rarely get 100 on mobile interaction despite never looking at my mobile, my phone was in my passenger seat, I didn’t touch it or look at it at all through my whole journey yet still didn’t get 100. I don’t like this app and I can say for sure I will not be using this insurance again.

Poor App

I have just signed to Churchill Drive Sure Insurance. Downloaded this app as requested, and well the app is very poor for a well known company. First off when accessing the app and selecting any of the tip items there are no back buttons. You have to close the app down and restart it. Secondly, I use my phone to play podcast when I drive. The phone is turned off and yet it says I was using my phone. You think I’m gonna sit in silence or listen to drivel radio. This needs a redesign. First trip out and I wanted to see if I drove as gently as possible. It said I needed to break more softly. Hmmmm, I’m pretty sure I stopped more softly that a butterfly. Also it says the roads I drove on were accident stricken. I drove from my house to Aldi. There hasn’t been a traffic accident on the roads (just two of them) in all the years I have lived here (8 years). Where they getting their data from. Well, let’s see what the year unfolds. I don’t have to renew with them at least. Oh and it didn’t record the journey back. Must have driven so smoothly it did recognise I was driving. If I could give half a star I would have.

Such a disappointment

Ive been using this app for 3 months now for my first insurance and i am extremely disappointed. The road risk score its complete garbage, its about avoiding locations with high historical crash rate, which brings down your whole driver score. As if we are meant to know how many crashes a certain road has had in the past and avoid it. In certain locations like Richmond this brings your score down drastically. The mobile interaction score, even though sounding smart, is also quite silly as traveling around Landon, especially for new drivers is quite overwhelming which requires a lot of map use changes during travel. Personally most times i’ve interacted with my phone during driving has been after I've stopped intentionally to change destination or a friend in the passenger seat is helping guide me, but again this is all ignored which brings your score down every time. As a new driver, i wont argue smooth driving, as I'm sure theres lots to improve on, however the scored always seem extremely low, as if theres F1 type acceleration and dead-stops. Ive noticed that in heavy traffic the score is lower, possibly due to the many starts and stops, which again, brings ur score down drastically. Speed score seems quite accurate. The time of day score is not too bad but at the end of the day if you've spent thousands on insurance and a car you will drive it at any time you need to, and bringing down my score because I'm driving at 5 pm or after 10 pm just seems a bit unnecessary.

Im just completed disappointed in the app, instead of making it easier and exciting for new drivers, it seems like its looking for all the possible ways to give you a low score so next year’s insurance is higher.

Terrible app worse then useless

This is one of the worst recent apps I’ve ever used. Going round and round in circles and not accepting clear correct information like a first name! In the end I had to call in from abroad and when I finally got through I was told that the operator could only operate the old system and not the new system! Which my policy was now on! This is a very outdated useless set up and I would avoid using it at all costs. You’re probably better off on the phone to start with. Also many things aren’t clear like with are u comprehensively covered abroad or not. That’s buried in the small print miles down in the 25 page policy document. Terrible misleading and crucial misinformation. The cover itself seems basically alright. it’s just the complex unclear information, accessing it and amending it that is a nightmare. I tried the chatbot but that didn’t work either. Didn’t understand my simple questions and kept going round in circles asking the same questions and asking me to login yet again. Not giving answers. Terrible experience. I’ve wasted an hour !

Inaccurate

Save yourself the bother and get a black box. The worst decision I have made. The reviews speaks for its self, nearly at the end of my first year and it’s been horrible. It will only record the last small portion of your journey and heavily mark you down. Note to customer support that will reply: Don’t ask me to go into further detail. It’s pretty easy to see that you do not take any of the feedback you get. I’ve left plenty of feedback and had absolutely no improvement in nearly a year. It’s clear from your reviews what the issues are. Fix your app or cancel your policies.

Edit: my first year is over, my average score was around 80 and I got offered about £100 off. I got £250 off elsewhere with no app or black box. Do not renew and if you haven’t got a policy, just get a black box. It’s far more accurate and won’t mark you down for no reason

Alright

The app is alright and definitely worth it for the money saved however there are a few issues firstly even when the app is open and actively using location it doesn’t always record. Likewise if you have low battery at the start of your journey but get to 100% during your journey it will not record the journey. The scoring system is fair if your like me and tend to use your car for longer journeys where I regularly get in the high 80s however if driving in cities your score is lower like if I drive anywhere less then a few miles it’s automatically in the 60s where’s a 150 mile journey which includes some city driving will be in the 80s

Not good for the road i live on

So i love in a village where cars are parked in both sides of the road and it’s extremely rare to get up without having to break a lot so my score is very unfair on most of my short journeys up and down this road. Take that into consideration please. Also i have my app updated to the newest version, i don’t know if it’s a new bug or something but “my recent journeys” have been loading which i was not driving in and it’s lowered my scores which is extremely unfair as 1 i couldn’t say it wasn’t me driving and 2 it won’t load them. Other than that the app is okay apart from the “time of day” and “road risk” as i can’t control when i’m going to go out and it’s not my fault the only roads i can go on are “high crash areas” when i’ve not seen a crash in those areas in years.

Absolutely dreadful

Where to even start with this app…I could go on for days talking about how dreadful it is. To be honest I gave it the benefit of the doubt and didn’t really take much notice of the scores because I suspected I wouldn’t ever get 100 on them because they don’t want to reward you. However I’m experiencing more problems now.. lately the trips I’ve been doing haven’t been recording even though I have my phone on all of the time as well as my mobile data so there would be no reason for it not to track. Now I’ve had a notification on my app as soon as I open it saying to update but I have no option to do so. I’m worried this make affect my insurance as it’s been like this for a couple of days now. I don’t understand how bad an app can be. Please get this sorted

Not happy with it

I work in town as a shop assistant and because of this I keep getting low scores on road risk and time of day. There is nothing I can do to change this as my work is in the town and I have to drive through the town. On my days off, I get 80s/90s overall but on the days I work I get 40s. I just find this completely unfair. I’m expected to log all my journeys but I’m marked down badly because I have no other access to work. And any time after 7pm, I’m being marked down for time of day, there’s nights I don’t get out of work until 12.

I’m not sure if there’s anything to be done, but I just find it so unfair and not beneficial for me, as if this continues for the rest of the year, the app will have me down as a bad driver.

Inaccurate and temperamental

I have been using this app for my insurance for a while now, and it is quite an inconvenience.
My main grievance is the how the scoring for ‘mobile interaction’ works - it marks you down for using navigation apps like google maps, and it is near impossible to score a perfect score for this category. I still only get 91, even when I have no background apps running and my phone is away in my bag the entire journey. So there is nothing I should be marked down for.
Secondly, every few days the app just fails to open, it says an ‘update is required’. But when you go to the App Store no update is available? So you have to keep deleting and re-downloading the app - very annoying.
Lastly, because the app tracks every journey, even ones you’ve not driven or were a passenger, you have to remember to go on the app to tag every single journey. Furthermore, if you don’t drive for 2 weeks, you have to contact Churchill to let them know why, or risk your insurance being cancelled?

Overall, the app is a massive hassle and is very flawed. Would not recommend.

Inaccurate

I’ve had it for a while now and it’s one of the most disappointing things to ever happen. Firstly I got good scores on all but one category which is smoothness. It’s the most inaccurate indicator in the world I end up getting zero for a 2 mile journey where I don’t break or accelerate to be given a 1 out of 100. I tried purposely to sit with parents and slowly brake hundreds of yards away from traffic slowly to see if the score would improve and it completely ignored my efforts. I think it’s because it’s done through the phone and not the car it’s the most inaccurate thing out there. Secondly it always tells me to update the app... however on the AppStore u can’t update it.. okay so I delete and redownload the app in the hope it will update and some time later... again I have to update. Now what do I do because I’m in the risk of journeys not being recorded. I can’t update and when I redownload it still requires an update. Most useless app ever. What is this? Sooo disappointed in this. Would give it 1 star if I could.
