Dropped objects can kill. Assessing the potential impact from dropped objects can be ambiguous and subjective. The Dropped Objects Calculator provides an objective indication of the potential impact of a dropped object. The assessment calculations are based on a common benchmark in the classification of the potential consequences of a dropped object, and endorsed by the DROPS Workgroup. Read more at www.dropsonline.org. The Drop Zone Calculator is a simple tool intended to approximate the danger zone that could be impacted by a dropped object. It takes into account the effect of up to two obstructions which may cause horizontal deflection of the object, therefore increasing the potential size of the drop zone. This calculator can greatly assist when planning work at heights activities and associated barricading of drop zones.

What's New in Dropped Objects Calculator

We've added a Drop Zone Calculator to assess the size of the potential danger zone, should a dropped object impact obstructions that cause horizontal deflection of the falling object. An industry standard rule of thumb called the 4:1 rule is commonly used to estimate the drop zone, however obstructions on the way down can significantly alter the horizontal distance that an object can travel. The Drop Zone Calculator aids in decision making by providing the ability to evaluate the potential impact that up to two obstructions can have on the size of the drop zone. It also provides the ability to adjust the 'elasticity' of the object, based on commonly used materials. We hope that this tool will assist in safer workplaces and prevention of significant injuries or events. Feedback or comments are welcome. We've also fixed some minor bugs in the Dropped Objects Calculator, where invalid text entries resulted in a crash.
