User reviews

I had to leave a review

This is a way of life, and if you take it seriously, it can improve your memory. I didn’t realize some people were upset that it doesn’t have a grid, but it didn’t bother me. In fact, I found out that people said it to be more challenging without one, which I think is a good thing. Overall, this app is something I plan to use for the rest of my life.

Scoring doesn’t make sense

If I never submit an answer I automatically get 70%? I just want to see how many I missed vs how many were possible. Percentage of success in the scoring is vague and doesn’t make sense since apparently if I don’t hit the buttons when there isn’t a match that’s correct too?

Maybe add a feature to pick how you want to be scored. One for the current way and another for showing how many matches were possible vs how many you hit and then how many errors you made.

The only N-Back app that I like

Really great, simple Dual N-Back app I’ve found that is well-made, nice looking, and functional. And I’ve tried every single one with 3+ stars. Unlike another reviewer, I like the grid-less layout — an extra challenge.

The ads on the free version are not obtrusive at all but I still paid $1.99 to support the developer.

Currently my favourite app

This is currently my favourite app! I’ve been practising several times every day. Thank you for a clear, neat experience of N-back, better presented than the other ones (I went and tried most of them). If there was Tri-back or Quad-back options available it would be even better.

FAQ

What is Dual N-Back?

Dual N-Back is a scientifically validated cognitive exercise designed to improve working memory. It involves simultaneously tracking auditory and visual stimuli and remembering if the current stimulus matches one from 'n' steps back. This app replicates the exact mechanics of the original experiments.

How does this app improve my brain?

Multiple studies suggest that improving working memory, which this app directly targets, can significantly increase fluid intelligence. Fluid intelligence is your ability to reason and solve new problems independently of previously acquired knowledge. By consistently practicing the Dual N-Back exercise, you can enhance these cognitive functions.

Is this app free to use?

The app is free to download and use with its core functionalities. However, it offers in-app purchases, which may unlock additional features or content to further enhance your training experience.

Does the app require an internet connection?

No, the app does not require an internet connection for most of its features. This allows you to train your brain anytime, anywhere, without worrying about connectivity issues. Only competitive features like Game Center and leaderboards require an internet connection.

What kind of progress tracking is available?

The app provides extensive statistics to help you analyze your progress over time. You can monitor your performance, identify areas for improvement, and track your journey towards enhanced working memory and fluid intelligence.
