UPDATE to review

(I went to update my review and it is missing)
Here was your response:
"We’re sorry this update changed the framing workflow you relied on. We understand that filming with the phone sideways and using the full landscape composition—while keeping the vertical 9:16 output centered—was essential to your setup. DualShot is intended to create synchronized 16:9 landscape and 9:16 portrait files from one take, not to make the landscape view a narrow crop within a vertical-first capture. Your feedback is clear: the sideways, full-width landscape capture with a centered vertical frame needs to be restored. We’re sharing this with the product team as a priority regression report. In the meantime, please check that you are using the rear-camera capture mode on an iPhone with multiple rear cameras, as Dual Lens Mode is designed to preserve the widest available landscape view while maintaining the portrait composition. If the current behavior remains after restarting the app and device, please contact support with your iPhone model and app version so the team can reproduce it accurately. We apologize for the disruption and will provide an update through a future app release if this framing behavior is restored or adjusted."

UPDATE: You can't use the "rear camera" as they defeats the entire purpose of the app - and you offer both front and rear camera. Before the update, you could put the camera landscape to get the most view, and the vertical was the center. You need front facing so you can monitor and keep yourself inview. NOW, you are forced to film vertical, so the landscape is a chop of the center of the vertical, with is literally 1/3 smaller view.

This app was the greatest app I have found in years, and solved me filming landscape, then needing to export, import to editing softward, crop, export, etc.

PLEASE PLEASE return the ability to film self-facing landscape, with vertical being the center. I can't use the app without this and have to go back to the old way - which is a LOT of work. This app was such a WONDERFUL fix to an age-old problem, and the quality was superb of both videos.

Plese fix promptly, thank you so much!

Response from developer

Karl, thank you for clarifying this—and you are absolutely right to call out the difference. Using the rear camera is not a workable substitute when you need to monitor yourself while recording. Your requested workflow is specifically: front-facing/self-facing capture with the phone held in landscape, preserving the full landscape view while producing a centered 9:16 vertical file at the same time. The current vertical-first behavior, where the 16:9 result is a narrower center crop, removes the key benefit that made DualShot valuable for your setup. We’re sorry our previous reply misunderstood that requirement. This is not a request for a different camera mode; it is a request to restore the front-camera landscape framing behavior that was available before the update. We have documented this as a high-priority regression for the product team, including the impact on self-recording, framing visibility, and the additional editing work the change forces you back into. We will review the previous front-camera landscape behavior against the current implementation and work toward restoring or improving it in an upcoming app update. While we cannot promise an exact release date yet, updates will be communicated through the App Store release notes. Thank you for explaining the workflow so clearly and for sharing how much the app previously helped. We understand that this change makes the app significantly less usable for you, and we sincerely apologize for the disruption.

Update ruined app

You used to be able to film primarily and landscape and then the vertical would be the center frame, but the update completely destroyed this app. Now you’re forced to film vertical so your landscape dual camera is only 1/3 of the vertical. Completely wrecked this app. Please restore the ability to film with your camera sideways, capturing the full landscape and the vertical duel being the center of the frame.

Got Robbed

Unfortunately I bought the 1 year. There was no trial option. Videos are laggier than my 13yr old. Straight garbage. Stay away. Idea was good but bad bad bad. Will post the videos on socials to share and buyer beware. At least my hard money wasn’t spent in vain.

Response from developer

We’re sorry your experience has been this frustrating—especially after choosing the yearly plan. The app is intended to make two-format recording faster, not leave you with laggy footage. There is currently no free recording tier; subscription options and any trial availability are presented by Apple before confirmation. If the app did not perform as expected, you can request a refund directly through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. You can also cancel renewal anytime in Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions. For the lag, please send our support team your iPhone model, iOS version, selected resolution/frame rate, and whether you were using Dual Lens or Single Lens mode. On older or heavily loaded devices, 4K/60 fps dual-format capture can be demanding; we will review this and help identify the best settings. We aim to respond within 1–2 business days. We take reports of poor recording performance seriously and would appreciate the opportunity to investigate the footage before you give up on the app.

Doesn’t work.

I have a 17 Pro Max, and it works with the front camera, but I don’t see an option to separate the videos from landscape and portrait. Also, it does not work on my back camera and if I use both cameras, front and back one works and the other one is distorted

Response from developer

We’re sorry the rear-camera recording and distortion are not working as expected on your iPhone 17 Pro Max. DualShot is designed to create two separate videos from one recording: one portrait (9:16) and one landscape (16:9). There is no separate “split” option during recording—both files should be generated automatically after you stop recording and saved to your photo library. Please first update DualShot and iOS to their latest available versions, then fully close and reopen the app and try a short rear-camera recording again. Please also confirm that DualShot has permission to access the Camera and Photos in your iPhone Settings. Saving to the photo library requires an active Pro subscription and Photos permission. The rear camera not recording, or one view becoming distorted when using both cameras, is not expected behavior. Please contact our support team with your device model, iOS version, app version, and a screen recording or sample showing the issue if possible. We’ll investigate this with priority and aim to respond within 1 business day.

iPhone 16pro Only works with selfie camera

I paid for a yearly subscription only to find the app records a black screen with my main camera. The app only works of I switch to the selfie lens. Very disappointing.

Response from developer

We’re sorry you’ve had this experience on your iPhone 16 Pro, especially after subscribing for the year. A black preview/recording from the rear camera is not expected, and we understand how disappointing that is. Please first close the app completely, restart your iPhone, then open DualShot again and try recording with the rear camera. Also check that the app has Camera permission enabled in your iPhone Settings. If the rear camera still records a black screen, please contact our support team with your iOS version and the video settings you selected (resolution and frame rate). This is a recording failure that needs investigation, and we’ll work with you to resolve it as quickly as possible.

Garbage

Have yet to see a multi-cam image while recording and main camera footage looks like smeared, twisted and just plain weird. Good luck guessing what I was shooting because it’s not discernible. Can I get my $40 back?

Response from developer

We’re sorry—footage that is smeared, warped, or unrecognizable is not acceptable. DualShot saves two separate videos (portrait and landscape) after recording; it does not create a combined multi-camera image during capture. However, the distortion in the main footage needs investigation. Please update the app and iOS, restart your device, and try a short test recording in Single Lens Mode at a lower resolution/frame rate. If the issue continues, please contact our support team with your device model, iOS version, app version, and whether it occurs in both Single Lens and Dual Lens Mode so we can escalate it promptly. For a refund, subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple. Please submit a request at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple reviews refund requests directly and will provide the status and timing.

Dual Camera Not Working

Dual camera not working. I’ve sent several messages reporting the bug. Have not heard back.

Response from developer

We’re sorry the dual-camera feature is not working and that your previous messages went unanswered. That is not the support experience we want to provide. Please first confirm that your device is running iOS 13 or later. Dual Lens Mode requires an iPhone with multiple rear cameras; iPhone XS or newer is recommended. If your device does not support Dual Lens Mode, you can still use Single Lens Mode, which creates both portrait and landscape videos from one camera feed. If the issue continues, please contact our support team again with your iPhone model, iOS version, app version, and a brief description of what happens when you try to record. Recording failures need to be reviewed by our support team, and we will investigate the issue as quickly as possible.

Lies - do not waste your money

The description says it provides two distinct videos - one in 9:16 and the other in 16:9. It DOES NOT. First, when trying to video with the back camera it only shows the horizontal video and the vertical video is black. Then the video it says has a Picture in Picture. The horizontal box is imbedded in the vertical video. Not two videos - one in each aspect ratio. One video with Picture in Picture. This app sucks. Do not waste your money. This is a scam.

Response from developer

We are sorry this was your experience. The app is intended to save two separate, standalone videos after each recording: one 9:16 portrait file and one 16:9 landscape file. A picture-in-picture result, or a black portrait output when using the rear camera, is not expected behavior. The on-screen frames are only composition guides and should not be embedded into either saved video. Please ensure DualShot has permission to access your Photos library, then check your camera roll for both files after recording. Because the black output and PiP-style export indicate a recording or export issue, please contact our support team with your iPhone model, iOS version, app version, and—if possible—a screenshot or short sample of the result. We will review the issue within 2 business days and work to resolve it.

New update and now it doesn’t work!

New name and new update now don’t work with my iPhone 17 pro max! Waste of $!

Response from developer

We’re sorry the latest update has stopped working on your iPhone 17 Pro Max. That is not the experience we want, especially after subscribing. Please first update the app and iOS to their latest available versions, then restart your iPhone. Also check that DualShot has Camera, Microphone, and Photos permissions enabled in iPhone Settings—camera access is required to record, microphone access is required for audio, and Photos access is required to save footage. If recording still fails or the app crashes, please contact support with your iOS version, app version, and what happens when you try to record. Persistent recording failures are treated as a priority for investigation. If you would prefer to request a refund, Apple handles billing requests at reportaproblem.apple.com.

The best

Response from developer

Thank you for the 5-star review! We’re delighted that DualShot Recorder is working so well for you. Our team will continue improving the app to make capturing vertical and horizontal footage in one take as smooth as possible.

Response from developer

App crashes, takes a LONG time to save video.

More than once I have recorded footage and since the app takes sooooooooooooo long to process the video it is sometimes hours later that I discover to my horror that it DID NOT SAVE TO MY CAMERA ROLL 🤬and there is no drafts or anyway to recover said footage. It’s just gone.

Response from developer

We’re very sorry for this experience. Losing footage after waiting a long time for processing is incredibly frustrating, and we understand how upsetting it is to find out hours later that the video was not saved and cannot be recovered. This should not be happening, and we appreciate you taking the time to report it. Please try the following for videos that do not appear in your Camera Roll: 1. Make sure your device has enough free storage available before recording and saving. 2. Check that the app has permission to access and save to your Photos library in your device settings. 3. After saving, wait for the export to fully complete and keep the app open until the process finishes. 4. If the video still does not appear in your photo library, check whether it remains inside “Your Videos.” 5. If a video is stuck there and cannot be saved, please contact support so we can investigate further. Regarding the crash and very long processing time, our team would like to look into this as quickly as possible. Please contact support with: - your device model - iOS version - app version - approximate video length - whether the issue happens every time or only on certain clips Once we receive those details, we can investigate the cause and guide you on the next steps. In the meantime, as a precaution, we recommend confirming a save has completed before closing the app after recording important footage. We understand that this does not restore the lost video, and we’re truly sorry for that. If you contact support with the details above, we’ll prioritize reviewing this issue.

Camera option sits on spinning and a gray screen after taking a picture

I have put in an app troubleshooting ticket, but I can’t take photos because when I click the shutter button, the screen goes gray and spins and never saves. Sometimes I can take a video and it will save.

I have uninstalled reinstalled and reboot. My phone. iPhone 16 Pro Max, plenty of storage.

Response from developer

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, especially after already submitting a troubleshooting ticket and trying a reinstall, reboot, and confirming you have enough storage. On an iPhone 16 Pro Max, the camera should not hang on a gray spinning screen after you tap the shutter. This sounds like an issue with the app getting stuck while processing or saving the photo. Since video can sometimes save, that detail is helpful and points to a photo-capture problem rather than a full camera failure. Please try these steps next: 1. Make sure iPhone camera access is enabled for the app in your device settings. 2. Make sure Photos access is also enabled for the app, since the image may be getting stuck at the save stage. 3. Close the app completely, reopen it, and test with a single photo before trying multiple shots. 4. If you use any iPhone settings that limit permissions or background activity, temporarily disable those and test again. 5. Try capturing a photo on a different network connection as a test, if the app requires syncing after capture. Because you’ve already completed the main basic troubleshooting, the next best step is for our team to review your existing ticket with device-specific diagnostics. Please reply to that ticket with: - your device model: iPhone 16 Pro Max - iOS version - app version - whether the issue happens every time or only intermittently - whether the photo ever appears in your photo library or only stays on the spinning gray screen - the approximate date/time of your most recent failed attempt If possible, please also include a screen recording of the gray spinning screen after pressing the shutter. That will help us narrow this down faster. Timeline-wise, once those details are added, our support team can continue investigating from the ticket you already opened. In the meantime, we understand this blocks normal use of the camera feature, and we’re sorry for the frustration.

Response from developer

Response from developer

Pay Pay Pay

It's useless unless you pay. Download it, and you cant even try it unless you pay 🤦🏻‍♂️

Response from developer

We’re sorry for the frustration, and we understand why this feels disappointing. You should be able to understand what the app offers before deciding whether to pay, and your feedback makes it clear that this experience is not meeting that expectation right now. We’re reviewing how the paywall is presented and how much access users get before subscribing. Our team is already collecting this type of feedback, and we will include your report in that review cycle. This is something we aim to improve in upcoming updates. If you’re open to it, please check back over the next app updates, as we’re working on making the first-time experience clearer and more useful. Thank you for taking the time to point this out.

Total scam!!

Total scam!! Dual Video/Photo does not provide independent control of the two cameras. I have an iPhone 17 which it says would work but doesn’t. Found much better app same price but actually works and lets you choose and switch cameras

Response from developer

We’re very sorry for the frustration this caused. If the app did not deliver the dual-camera control you expected on your iPhone 17, that is understandably disappointing. To clarify, not every dual-camera mode is available on every device/configuration, and independent control of both cameras may be limited depending on hardware and iOS support. That said, if the app indicated your device was supported and the feature did not work as described, we understand why this felt misleading. Please contact our support team with: - your exact iPhone model - iOS version - app version - a short screen recording showing what happens when you try to use Dual Video/Photo Once we receive that, we can verify whether this is a compatibility issue or a bug and give you a clear answer. If it is a bug, we will escalate it to our engineering team for review. Our usual first response time is within 1–2 business days. We appreciate you calling this out, and we’re sorry we did not meet your expectations.

Front cam issue

Great idea, but poor execution. The front camera does not work. You won’t know that until you pay the subscription. Extremely annoying.

Response from developer

Con

Let’s you film something then blackmails you into paying a fee for release of footage. Stay well away people.

Response from developer

We’re sorry this was your experience. It should never feel unclear or pressured when trying to access your own footage. What you’re describing can happen when a video is recorded but does not save properly to the photo library and remains locked in “Your Videos.” We want to help you get this resolved. Please contact our support team with: - the device model - app version - when the recording was made - whether the video is still visible in “Your Videos” Once we have that, we can review the case and guide you through the fastest recovery options. If the footage is still showing as locked, support can confirm what happened and what steps are available next. We understand how frustrating this is, especially after taking the time to record something important. If you reach out, we’ll investigate this as a priority and follow up as quickly as possible.

Tried and need refund please.

I bought this app today.

I tried it and the video function has no stabilisation built in.

Secondly the landscape is super zoomed in, ie. A fraction of the portrait shot.

Please refund me since I have a 14 day cool off period and this app was bought today.

Response from developer

We’re sorry this was your first experience with the app, and we understand your frustration. You are entitled to request a refund if the purchase was made today and is within the 14-day cooling-off period. Because refunds are handled by the app store, please request it directly through your purchase account as soon as possible. Regarding the issues you mentioned: - Video stabilisation is not currently built into the video function. - The landscape view appearing much more zoomed in than portrait is not the experience we want for users, and we appreciate you flagging it. If you would still like to try the app before refunding, please contact our support team with your device model and OS version so we can review the landscape zoom issue more closely. If not, the fastest next step is to submit the refund request today through the store. Again, we’re sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
