Step on them in the order that spells a chord, and the way opens upward. ■ Chord shapes, learned by playing Each island teaches one chord. Notes are shown by degree — root, 3rd, 5th, 7th — so you start to recognise the same shape in any key. You don't need to read music. Your ears and fingers do the learning. ■ Fourteen islands, fourteen sounds From the simple triads of the first island to the chromatic steps of Shadow Isle and the minor colours of Witch Isle. The chords thicken as you climb, and before long you're stepping through 7ths and inversions. ■ Every island has a keeper The stall owner, the drunkard, the thief, the cook, the witch.
