Awful

Awfully Awful.

SMH

Downloaded the app and it does not even work.

Pretty poor effort

This is pretty bad as far as e-readers go. I think you can bookmark a page, but that’s about it. There’s no highlighting, no option for notes and no dictionary linked for looking up words. There is no comfortable option for reading at night, just a glaring super bright screen that hurts your eyes. But the worst thing is the navigation. It is quite unbelievably bad. Every time you take a break from reading, the book gets closed and you have to page through one page at a time to find where you were. You can’t even scroll, you have to tap, and there is no slider at the bottom to move through quickly. So time consuming and clunky. To get from one chapter to the next you have to go back to the contents page! I would not use this at all if they didn’t have a monopoly on some of the books I need to read.

you cant find book

even I already add book to the in webapp the app version not show my book. so you cant read book in this useless app

Does not work

Useless I can not access any books, search any books, and it says my bookshelf is empty when it is not

None of the books on my bookshelf are viewable on the app!

Please fix!

Does not work

It was impossible to read using the app. Only blank pages where displayed.

Unusable

Still non-functional. Can download the borrowed book, but cannot see any text. The chapter and page navigation are all unresponsive.

Just use the website

The app is pointless. It lacks functionality in comparison to the website rather than adding anything to the experience. No features, no perks, not helps, you might as well just use the website.

Pointless app that does nothing

This app adds no value, only layers of frustration. No text to speech. Cumbersome set up. No quick start guide: they want you to register and sit through a webinar before you use it. Books saved to your bookshelf don’t show up unless you sign in with your institutional credentials each time you open the app. Books you download through the app don’t open in the app. If you make it through all the steps, you find the app is identical to the mobile website. There is no point to the it at all.

Not ready

The old way was much better. This app was released and also prevents the old way of downloading books, even though it was not ready for release. Can’t annotate the books at all. We are made to use this app only to download books to read away from Wi-Fi. Very disappointed in ProQuest Ebook Central.

COMPLETELY unusable

Without exaggeration, this app has made me more frustrated than any of the thing I have had to use since start college IN 2015. Books will say downloaded but only show a blank page 0 with no way to progress. I thought it was a glitch. Uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Download and removed the book. Tried another book. Literally just does not work. I even updated my device software to try to help. It should not take a PhD to use your app, but this one requires more than that. Shameful.

Terrible

This app is terrible. It makes reading textbooks 10x more difficult than it already is. Every other textbook app I have been able to choose the font size, line spacing, color of the text etc. the only thing this one does and font size. The line spacing is so short it makes it incredibly hard to read. It’s so straining on my eyes. The app never remembers where I last was. It’s incredibly glitchy. I hate this app.

What’s the point?

I added a book to my bookshelf, but it does not appear in the app. I can find the book, but it just runs in safari. What’s the point of the app if I could do the same thing in a browser? Confusing.

Garbage

Indescribably terrible UI. EPUBs slow to load and clunky; PDFs unreadable; app is unusable trash.

Lost Progress and Low Resolution

Two small points: (1) It is indeed frustrating that the app doesn’t keep my place, consider the example—when I’m at work reading a 400 page book on my phone, the scrolling on Safari to elucidate tangent points, and coming back, I find that my progress is lost entirely and I’m sent back to the book library page, and then when I press the book to access the text I’m sent, from there, to the first page of the book. This is very frustrating and makes the experience of using the app quite discontinuous. There should be a ‘locking’ function somehow, in an upcoming update. I’ve taken to remembering my page number and inserting it at the bottom to get back to where I was, prior, whenever I go off on tangents, but this seems unsustainable. Next is that (2) there is really terrible resolution when I zoom in and it is quite hard to read. This is a worse issue than the first and not helpful at all for people with visual issues. Overall, I feel like this app is working against me!

Absurdly Slow and Poorly Designed

I got this app to flip through a textbook that my school happened to have access to through Ebook Central. It’s borderline unusable for this purpose. There’s no scrolling through pages the way you can with a proper pdf, and everything is just slow.

Doesn’t work

I’ve tried several times to use the code provided to register my device but the submit button does not work. Complete waste of time.

They had one job

Downloaded a textbook and every page is very low resolution. Textbook works perfectly fine everywhere else but this app.

Shame on Proquest

It is regrettable that ProQuest makes us read their materials using the poorly designed and ridiculously implemented app. There are other high quality apps that protect ownership and copyright, but this version from ProQuest is essentially unusable. For example, if I want to stop away from the iPad for a moment and it goes into standby, the Ebook Central app will give an error that the can not be displayed at this time and I need to reload the book, and then find where I left off. This is not user friendly and amounts to a mojo pain to use. Second, the note taking function is ridiculous. In does not allow me to select tact that I’d like to copy, and if I use the copy button at the bottom of the page, it gives me me a random selection of text from someplace near the page I’m reading. ProQuest, what is your goal with this software? So far my only outcome is absolute frustration. If you are going to demand that we use this to read your products, the invest in something that is capable of presenting the material without error, remembers what page I am reading, and is capable of rudimentary note taking for academic clients. Do these three things well and I can forgive some of the other shortcomings.
