Same Problems as First Version
Update: 8 months since the last update for the app. So many things still broken. Trying to play online w friends, so we have a way to communicate outside of the app. It shows my friend’s turn on my device, it show my turn on his. The dev appears to have no interest in addressing any of the issues this app has. This is a barely updated version of the first version of the game. It still uses some of the rules from v1 that are not actually in 2nd Dawn. Same graphics, same interface, same lack of configuration options available for multiplayer, just as before. Notifications don’t work so inevitably players in a mp game will be replaced by bots. They slapped a new splash screen on the old version, added the new tech and left everything else in the same broken state it was in before. It might be fine for solo mode, but if you want to play online MP, steer clear.

Great for practice, single player or pass and play.
The good:
Animated Battles 😎
Challenging AI.
Fully automates the more tedious aspects of the board game.
The bad:
Can on rare occasions crash at a point where your current game cannot be recovered.
Not good for online gameplay.
This App forces some steps to happen sequentially, and sometimes irreversibly, which would otherwise be flexible in real gameplay.
I recently bought the board game with some friends. I got this app for practice between games or local tournaments. It’s great because it automates all the setup and calcs. Also all the little steps that could be forgotten during typical gameplay are prompted for. I don’t see any true rule variations from the board game. Playing as a single player vs 1 to 4 ai players is challenging and satisfying. The practice I got in the app gave me a significant edge when playing the real board game with my friends. I tried to play online with a friend but the game didn’t even show up in the Queue until 24 hrs later. One other caveat: Currently if you’re bankrupt at the cleanup phase; the game forces you to decide to sell resources, but darkens all the other visible information you need to make that decision. Also this action can’t be undone if you find you have to remove too many disks after the fact. So you need to be careful. Finally it is too easy, and even seems encouraged, to accept ambassador tokens from other players that replace high value and hard earned reputation
tokens on your hidden diplomacy track.

It's okay
If you already know how to play, and have the itch this will do it, it's very streamlined and does not have the expansions. I'll still play it every now and then.. I have yet to play online, just bots
Pretty good practice, but unreliable
It’s pretty good to practice the fundamentals of a great game, but my biggest gripe is the game has a bad habit of “breaking” deep into a session. I constantly have the game totally freeze and force me to start a new game when I am on round 7 or 8. That is extremely frustrating to invest all that time and effort only to lose out on playing the final and most challenging rounds of the game.

Tech Needs Fixing
Overall a good implementation of the game. However, the tech discount system doesn’t work at all, putting the player at a significant disadvantage, and fundamentally changing how the game works, especially for factions like the Hydran Progress. Contacting the developers about this issue was impossible due to language barriers. The game will also feel incomplete until the expansion content is available.

Buggy but mostly playable
The game is playable in its current state, and functions mostly as expected. It does occasionally crash, but progress has been saved 95% of the time. The AI is not very good, but can put up enough of a fight to make it entertaining. The app does have strange dice rolling anomalies, like rolling snake eyes in 3 consecutive battles, which I guess is technically possible with true RNG.
Definitely needs some work to live up to the price tag.

Local game freezes on iPhone
Great game and production, too bad has freezed many times on local plays, with different races and situations. If it ever gets corrected, I’d gladly rate 5 stars for what it is.
Doesn’t work
Most games hang up in combat, some tech upgrades don’t work and some rules are wrong. Very disappointed.
Good, but online doesn’t work
Good app, but the online play doesn’t work for me. It won’t let me select a species.
Good Game OK Port
It’s great to have this epic game on iPhone. Previously it was iPad only.
The port is just ok but not greatly optimized particularly for small screen. Some text is tiny.

Race abilities
This is an amazing implementation of the game. I would like to only recommend a way to see the details of each race better (without looking into the rule book)
Getting better
This is a good adaption of the board game. The developers are actively improving the game and it’s very playable in its current state.
This amazing board game deserves a much better app than this
It seems like minimal effort was put into this app with no attention to detail or dedication to excellence. There are basic errors in the implementation of the second edition rules that should not have passed even rudimentary play testing. The multiplayer experience is broken and incomplete. Also, there have been no update or even comments from the developers since release which suggest no intention to support this product.

Terrible multiplayer support
Will 1-star until the ability to asynchronously create a MP game and not need everyone online at the same time is a thing, and private games with friends are allowed. Also no MP player timeouts please.
Good multiplayer would allow this game to soar; right now it’s tacked on and barely functional. Avoid this game unless playing solo only for now.

Finally!
Loved the board game from he start, and got all the additions and upgrades. Was super sad when the original app disappeared and so finally having it back with the new additions is a long craved thing. This isn’t an easy game to turn into an app so really pleased with what was done. Few minor issues, but nothing in comparison to finally having this game online!!!

Suboptimal
It’s great to have this epic game on iPhone. Previously it was iPad only.
However, it might as well be iPad only as there seems to be no optimization for iPhone. The text is almost impossible to read, or at least a massive chore.
UI is pretty lacklustre. For example: Clicking on a technology and its description is shown all the way on the other side of the screen. There is no need for that, it just makes it harder to follow and read.

Wonderful to see this as an App.
I own this board game, so it’s a real treat to see it in App form. This has updated the prior App for the first edition game with some refreshed graphics, added in the 2nd edition changes, as well as some QOL features ( e.g., passing until attacked). The AI does a good enough job, and is a noticeable improvement over the prior App. Highly recommend if you love Eclipse, or ever wanted to try it out. Of course, the physical version is spectacular.

Tolles Spiel - Lauwarme Umsetzung
Schade.
