Whenever I’m in doubt about whether something is recyclable, I use this app. It makes it easy to know that I’m tossing the right things into the bin!

It’s nice and useful app but it has a lot of room to grow. Ability to search for specific items is great but it would have been even better if besides that this app was a bit like an actual encyclopaedia with an alphabetized list of items visible on the screen. This option would add to the educational value of the app as then users would be exposed to more information. I’d definitely appreciate the ability to just read through the recyclopedia without having to think of every item that might or might not be included.
Certain aspects about recycling are somewhat unclear, this app would benefit from more details. For example, it’s continuously written that EcoMaine accepts plastics if they are 1)rigid 2)containers 3)marked ##1-7. The same passage repeats on the “plastic furniture” and several other items’ articles that I personally would not define as “containers”. So it would be really helpful to know what exactly is meant by “container” as it does get a little confusing. Also, I’ve read that many facilities can’t handle smaller plastic items, so it would be nice to know minimal dimensions/volume of the plastic recyclables. This seems to be a question for paper recyclables as well since “puzzle” article states that facility can’t handle them due to their size. Yet shredded paper is ok to recycle in clear bag. How comes? Or does it mean that puzzle pieces are also ok if placed in a clear bag? Is it better to detach a cap if it’s # doesn’t match bottle #? It would be really helpful if recyclopedia actually explained certain nuances like these. Thank you and my best wishes!

Plastic Bags Not Recyclable?
Only places that do redemption take plastic bags back. Walmart surely doesn’t and most stores don’t do bag take backs. May as well just be getting rid of bags altogether at this rate, due to Maine being idiots and not realizing that plastic bags can be recycled. If people aren’t crushing down the bags into the recycling and it gets loose, that’s on the trash guy.
At least Missouri has it right by doing non-sort trash. They have more jobs because they have non-sort and people go through trash to take out the recycling. Maine is becoming redundant
