About

Perfect eggs, every time - powered by science. This isn’t just another egg timer. It’s a precision tool built on thermodynamic principles, designed to take the guesswork out of boiling eggs. Whether you’re after soft, medium, or hard-boiled, this app calculates the exact time needed based on real-world cooking variables - so you get consistent results, every time. Start with cold eggs. Let science do the rest. Most egg timers assume you drop eggs into boiling water. But in real kitchens, eggs often go in cold. This app accounts for that. Using heat transfer equations and empirical testing, it models the time required to reach target doneness—including both boiling and resting phases. However, if you do prefer to lower your eggs into simmering water or shock them in an ice bath after cooking, you can simply set these as options before starting the timer and the calculations are adjusted for you. Customizable inputs for real-world cooking: • Starting temperature: Choose whether your eggs are refrigerated or at room temperature. • Water temperature: Begin with cold water or pre-boiled water—both are supported. • Resting method: Select whether eggs will rest in room temperature water or an ice bath. • Hob type: Gas, electric and other hobs heat differently. The app makes allowances for this. • Egg size standards: Supports regional sizing across Australia, the US, UK, and EU for accurate timing. If your region isn't included: let us know and we'll look at adding it. Alternatively, just select the size based on egg weight. Key features: • Scientific timing model Built on heat transfer logic and refined through real-world testing, the app calculates cook time based on egg size, starting temperature, water volume, and hob type. This ensures accurate results across different kitchen setups. • Cold-start compatible Drop your eggs into cold water and start the timer. The app tracks the full heating curve and resting phase, so you don’t need to guess when to begin. • Minimalist, intuitive design No clutter. Just clean, focused screens that guide you through the process. Even testers with no prior instructions were able to use it successfully. • Real-world tested Feedback from closed testers led to UI refinements and timing adjustments. One tester noted overcooking on an electric hob because of the length of time it took to come to a boil — this now accounted for in the cooking instructions. Why it works: Egg cooking is a matter of protein denaturation, which occurs at specific temperatures. The app models the heat transfer from water to egg, factoring in the gradual rise in temperature from a cold start. It then calculates the time needed to reach the target internal temperature, followed by a resting phase to stabilize texture. This approach is more accurate than fixed timers or guesswork, especially when starting from cold. Who it’s for: • Home cooks who want reliable results • Foodies who appreciate precision • Anyone who’s ever overcooked or undercooked an egg • Fans of simple, well-designed tools that just work Simple. Scientific. Consistent. Download now and enjoy eggs the way they were meant to be—perfectly cooked, every time.

What's New in Eggzactimer

1.1

October 30, 2025

What’s New in Version 1.1 This update improves timing accuracy, scientific calibration, and user guidance: Timing Logic Fix — Now More Physically Accurate We’ve resolved a subtle but important bug: previously, the resting phase was incorrectly subtracted from the total cook time, leading to undercooked results in some cases. This issue arose from how the app models thermal transitions using Newton’s Law of Cooling — a physics-based approach that simulates how heat dissipates over time. The fix ensures that rest and cook times are now treated as distinct thermal phases, resulting in more reliable outcomes. Improved Calibration from Real-World Testing We’ve fine-tuned the coefficients in our thermal model based on extensive real-world testing across different egg sizes, water volumes, and ambient conditions. These refinements yield more accurate timing recommendations that better reflect practical cooking scenarios. Expanded Spoken Reminders and Instructions We’ve added more spoken prompts to help guide you through the boiling process. These include: • Additional reminders to remove eggs when ready • Checks to confirm when boiling begins and that eggs have been removed once cooked • Expanded instructional cues to support clarity and reduce missed steps
