Video with subtitles errors because no subtitles
I see subtitles in the video, but Eightify says there are no subtitles and won’t summarize… pretty lame.

Idk if this app/service even works or how well it works, but I won’t find out because my first install and attempt at use ever says I’m out of uses and to try again in 20 hours.

Predatory Trial
Holy cow. A dollar a month instead of two?! 12$ a month for a summary AI. Great! Oh… wait… a 1$ free trial and then 150$ a year… I… see. Not only did it lied about the cost it out the 150$ charge in tiny greyed out font on the sales screen. These tools are a dime a dozen. Nothing justifies business practices like these.

Deceptive payment problems
After already having had a 7-day trial I went in to try for a monthly plan, which had been advertised at $5/month. There was no button for it; there was two buttons: 1. A button for a 7-day trial (yes, again) and subsequent billing but it did not say if it was annual or monthly. 2. Billing for $9.99 per month. Remembering back I know I had seen the lower price for monthly billing and I preferred not to get billed double for a monthly plan. I restricted my payment card to only allow $20 or less payments to go through and selected the 7-day trial with subsequent billing, figuring if it bills me it’ll be at the lower rate and if it gives me another trial (highly doubtful) then that’s fine too. They billed my Apple account $59.99 and since it didn’t go through due to restriction my Apple account was frozen and I couldn’t do anything. I had to call and allow Apple to process the card and then request a refund. Developer needs to fix their UI for billing and also fix their billing system entirely. Because of this UI issue I’m out $60 and now have to wait around a full week to get it back. Do I earn interest on ‘borrowed’ funds? No. No apology, just finger pointing between the developer and Apple for blame.

No free options
After installing and after the first link that I pasted it wouldn’t let me see the summary and was already asking me to pay telling me that I ran out of uses, I didn’t even get to see the summary of the first link without it demanding me to upgrade, there’s no way to see your previous summaries, I went to NoteGPT instead, didn’t need to download an app and got my summary actually for free. Immediately downloaded then uninstalled, don’t waste your time.

This thing probably works, might work, but I can actually do this on my laptop just not on my mobile… Somebody’s going to figure this out and these guys are going to lose out because they don’t actually summarize your video for you, and even if they do doesn’t look like you can send the summary anywhere… Sounds like there’s a market opportunity here and someone’s gonna crush these guys with a freemium app, hopefully soon.

LIMITED
According to the app, Eightify only works with videos that have subtitles. That really isn’t that helpful for an AI application to summarize YouTube videos.
